2002 Beetle 1.8 Turbo A/C quit blowing cold

2002 Beetle 1.8 Turbo A/C suddenly quit blowing cold air. Was nice and cold a few minutes earlier then just went warm. How do I determine if its low on refrigerant vs a compressor vs pressure switch problem? Thanks. AK - Hot in Omaha.

You would have to measure the pressure to determine if it's pressurized correctly. The compressor won't run if it's low.
What happens when you push the a/c button? Can you hear/feel the compressor kick in? It seems like in most cases it's the compressor itself or the compressor clutch that goes. It's way too common in vw's...

Why does engine stop running after half hour of running, and after sitting for about 15 minutes will start back up?

Does it quit smoothly but suddenly? Or does it sputter then stop?
It could be that the fuel cap has a defect that no longer allows air to enter the tank, thus causing a large pressure difference that the pump can no longer overcome. After sitting a while, the tank "equalizes" and the pump can resume its normal pressurization of the fuel system,

your ac compressor is freezing up try not putting it on cold all the way. put thermostat towards the red jus a lil but still on the cold side to see if that helps

Loud noise folled by loss of power

In order to run a turbo you have to have low compression in your cylinders. when you drive to aggressively you can blow you turbo out and you car will have no power at all. A turbo pushes air into you intake in order to get that power. if it goes out your engine will run like its 30 years old and blown. get a new turbo. take care and good luck.

2002 vw beetle ac prob. was cooling one minute then i turned ac off for about 5min. when turned back on ac was blowing hot air.

Too much pressure build-up when you turn it off, the compressor will not function.
You may have "air bubbles" in the system.
Have refrigerant checked (for free) at most auto stores (call ahead).

Hope this helps!

A/C air sometimes cold, sometimes not on VW Beetle 2001 Turbo

AC will not work with temps are cold even when it is turned on. The air is colder cause the temp is colder. The AC cycles in hot weather because the AC charge is low and needs recharging. You will know this if you open the hood run the AC and you will hear the clicking sound of the AC compressor magnetic clutch. You can recharge it easily buy buying a compatible can of refrigerant. I suggest buying the kit with the gage so you don't overcharge the system which will cause freeze ups

Turbo maintenance

If you let the car idle when you stop driving it gives the car time to recirulate fresh oil through turbo bearing , since the turbo gets extremely hot from the exhaust side (and spins at very high speeds) you really should also run full synthetic oil on turbo cars to extend turbo life.regular motor oil tends to burn and carbon up in turbo bearing and causes premature turbo failure .

Check the battery fuse box,, they are faulty and do not hold up to amps needed to run both fans when a/c is on... I had same problem and VW expert took a full 2 minutes to figure out since it's a very common problem... dealer only part, but you can replace it in 5 minutes... (if you look under fuses, you should see some partial melting of area where fuse contacts go in,,tell tale sign your box has failed)....
