2001 1500 vulcun how due you adjust the clutch. dies in 1st gear

Clutch needs adjusting 1st and reverse gear not synchronised so they will grind if your clutch is out of adjustment

if it worked before why a new clutch,,,(context wins, here/??????)
ok, so you the clutch is failing,
you never posted the symtoms, not really
does car start in gear with clutch depresses, or start to move
does car take off in 1st ?
or is it just moving fast issues>????
cant up shift, cant down shift
hard to shift. (blocks)
grinds.

my wild guess, based on no input is the clutch linkage,
was never adjustED
the side kicks (not sport 1.8L) all have
cable clutches, and the 1 inch rule stated here.
i bet you didnt adjust it or the linkage splines are damaged.
or the pedal is cracked , caused by bad cable.
always replace the cable first. is it breaks other things if not.

adjust the linkage from gear stick to your gear box .

Now you know why the prior owner sold the bike. The problem is a bent shift fork. The engine comes out of the bike then the bottom end gets disassembled to a point where a new shift fork can be installed. The "grinding" is the dogs on the slider gear not fully engaging into first gear.
Your local Honda dealer will charge you $1000 to $1500 to do the repair. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

Sounds like you do need a clutch adjustment.Do you have a hydraulic clutch?Check beside the brake master cylinder and look for a SMALLER size master cylinder which may be low on fluid.(PUT ONLY BRAKE FLUID IN TO FILL IT).Hopefully it is just low and the brake fluid fill will restore your clutch adjustment.

see if thete is any adjustment left in the clutch cable if not then you will require a new clutch

As Long as is Does Not grind while UP SHIFTING you R fine , DOWNSHIFTING into 1st Gear BEFORE 20 mph is a Disaster Waiting to Happen EXAMPLE> Just BECAUSE a car CAN run at 120mph does not Mean One SHOULD do it. If it downshifted to 1st gear before 20 mph with OTHER Clutch that was due to WEAR, there MAY be a bit of AIR in the Release bearing or Slave cylinder, That needs to be BLED OUT, DOWNSHIFTING IS NOT A recommended Practice Unless its an EMERGENCY STOP condition, as It Causes Premature Wear on Clutch Disc. I Know this MAY seem UNTRUE as you may have done it for years But IN FACT A Clutch is MADE to Simply Get From LOWER GEAR TO HIGHER GEAR, but if you Downshift ALL of the time you WILL Subject the Clutch to TWICE the WEAR you Should THUS WEARING it OUT TWICE AS FAST $ thats $$$$. A good number of shops wont Advise you this Far as it Would REDUCE THERE Profit. I Hope I Have shed some Light on this delima, And Think of the MONEY you Can SAVE on TWICE the Longevity with 1 Clutch Job. hi are you saying you canno select 1st gear?? but able to select other gears and drive car ok ? your clutch is auto hydraulic adjust if you could offer more info on 1st gear unable select? it would give a better picture of what may be your problem? at the moment its sound like selector problem?

check the detent balls in the gear box also check simple things like mounts and clutch adjustment

you say it doesn't slip ,pull hand brake hard, start engine
put it in fifth gear accellerate and let clutch out if it dies quick the clutch is ok if not it needs replaced ou adjusted
