Question about 1987 Jeep Comanche

1987 jeep comanche 2.5L (gas). Engine died

1987 jeep comanche 2.5L (gas). Engine started this morning, drove to auto parts store and shut it off. When I tried to restart it it started to ''catch'' then died and still wont start. Had to have it towed home.
I pulled the coil wire from the distributor and inserted a large cotter key in it. I had my son crank the engine over and there is no spark.

Do you have a rpm guage? If so see is it moves when cranking, if not the crankshaft sensor is bad and is located on top of the transmission bell housing. Also it can be scanned to confirm a faulty sensor

have you checked the crank position sensor? when this baby goes the engine will start and run for one or two seconds then die like its out of gas.

Also the ignition switch may be suspect.

1987 jeep comanche has new fuel pump, won't start

The pump is in the fuel tank. You need to replace the fuel pump. it is dying, and will sooner or later die all together. Have you changed the fuel filter????? Also check that out!!!!

Jeep stalls

I had the same problem... frustrating.

I picked up a repair manual at the parts store. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner spray. I changed the Idle Air Control Valve (idle speed motor) which was very clogged. While I had the throttle body off I also changed the Map Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor. The manual will walk you through the steps. I had never done anything like this before. If I can do you so can you.
My Jeep has never run better. Good Luck
