The passenger door lock will lock and un-lock all doors, works fine. the driver's door on the other hand will not will not lock or un-lock any doors. I dis-connected the battery and then the driver's door lock worked manually just fine.
I like simonech's idea except I can't fine the 12 pin connector named BCM-EF. Since this is a Elantra, I don't know if the components are the same. Do I have to remove the steering column cover to see what simonech is talking about?
Thanks for any ideas.....

Folks, I had this problem for years...it turned out that the voltage control module on the alterntor wasn't working correctly. It eventually led to a major problem with consistant operation of the vehicle. the dealer couldn't figure it out...it took a seasnoned mechanic to solve the problem. I haven't had a problem since I got the alternator replaced. Wear your gloves when you change them, yes, but don't discount your alternator.

there is a short or a signal from the un-locking switch that is triggering your locks.
you have a switch manually to lock and un-lock your doors, the unlocking circuit is making contact.
you can try playing with your switch to un-short the switch or open it up ang check it.

grab a large punch and hammer and knock out the old broken one. Push the new one in and re tighten. This will pull it into place and because it has splines it should not spin while doing so.
