Question about 1994 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

1994 Lincoln town car is blowing black smoke and running rough and appears to be using excessive gasoline. Might it be the Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator? Neighbor had 1983 Ford SUV that had this problem and burned the engine up due to raw gas getting pumped into the cylinders.

My 1992 nissan terrano blows to much black smoke .how to fix this .some say i have unbirt fuel?

if diesel and turbo , check turbo operation of for holes in the intercooler
if turbo or naturally aspirated check/ replace injector tips as black smoke indicators squirting and not atomizing
if petrol check for excessive fuel pressure, faulty injectors , leaking injector seal
regardless of petrol or diesel --black smoke indicates incorrect air / fuel ratio ( too much fuel) so injectors, intercooler, bad turbo or blocked air cleaner are all candidates for the fault

Truck starts but only chuggs and blows out black gas smoke as engine lite flashes no throttle response

black smoke is too much fuel
check for leaking injector and injector seals
check for excessive fuel pressure
run the fault codes as you will have some from the engine light on

1994 Ford Ranger low power

Ok, it sounds as though your fuel pressure regulator or injector lines or injectors are leaking. What engine is in the vehicle? Is the engine light flashing? Does it start hard and blow smoke on startup?

Ford e 350 runs rough blows black smoke until you restart it

the truck is either an e350 0r f250 right? now which?
Gas powered rigs ? call the dealer to inquire about outstanding recalls. inspect your fuel pressure regulator for the correct number
F4TZ or newer should be seen. check the oil dipstick for a fuel smell. if the spark plugs show excessive fuel or carbon. change the oil first, and the filter. then use an update regulator, and tune up.
diesel rigs? theres a possibility of fuel injector pump and or injector problems. first determine the glow plug system is right. see a diesel tech about what diesel fuel system yours is equipped with, do the required maintenance, and with good parts does it smoke cold only, warm only or both. then you can begin to get answers. several systems were used and engine displacement must be known to look it up. a faulty glow plug controller or inoperative glow plugs can contribute to cold smoke, a faulty injector pump or leaky injectors can cause warm smoke. some diesels have the newer system and there are a series of updates you must have. parts are very expensive so do your homework first. build date, engine size, injector type, outstanding recalls, tsb's tech service messages. these can all be found at the ford dealer. they will be happy to answer your questions.

Runs rough black smoke shakes when running

Is the check engine light on ? You would need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes if it is.
Black smoke would be fuel, so you may have a leaking fuel injector.

2004 ford excursion 6.0 was running ruff and blowing black smoke. now wont start

Usually a sign of a faulty fuel pressure regulator or injector. Someone will need to check the plugs to see if they are fuel-fouled and where the excess fuel is coming from. Since this engine has an injector for each cylinder I doubt it is a faulty injector but something could be grounding all of them at one time.

Black smoke>fuel consumption>rough idle

Hi there:
Black smoke is caused by excess fuel that has entered the cylinder area and cannot be burned completely. Another term for excess fuel is "running rich." Poor fuel mileage is also a common complaint when black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. Black smoke out the tailpipe is the least cause for alarm. Excess fuel will usually effect engine performance, reduce fuel economy, and produce a fuel odor.

How did the fuel get into the cylinder in the first place? Some of the causes of excess fuel are a carburetor that is out of adjustment, a faulty fuel pump, a leaky fuel injector, or a faulty engine computer or computer sensor. If black smoke is present, check the engine oil as in the white smoke example to make sure excess fuel has not contaminated it. Do not start the engine if a heavy, raw fuel smell can be detected in the engine oil. Call your mechanic and advise him of what you have found.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

2005 Lincoln Town Car suffering from low fuel pressure, I have Changed Fuel Rail pressure sensor, Fuel Pump driver, the fuel pump in the tank and the fuel filter but it is still showing only 26 psi fuel...

The ford spec listed in the ford engine control manual is:

General Specifications Item Specification Fuel tank capacity 71.9L (19 gal) Fuel Pressure Hot restart 448-482 kPa (65-70 psi) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) 140-415 kPa (20-60 psi) Key ON Engine Running (KOER) 170-280 kPa (25-40 psi)

Are you measuring the fuel pressure with a mechanical gauge or are you using a scan tool . If with a mechanical gauge, does the gauge have an air purge? What symptoms does the vehicle present. If running rough you could have a fuel injector leaking. Are you measuring the fuel pressure with the key on engine off? If so, did you cycle the key a few times? Good luck
