There is a push button switch that sits behind metal bar that holds your brake pedal. This switch is what turns on the brake light when you push on the brakes. Check to make sure that when the brake pedal is pushed that there is a short across this switch. If there isn't then the switch is bad.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge neon tail lights inop

looking at your schematics and , you say tail lights don't work , you didn't mention if front parking lights and license plate lights are working , they all come from the same source , a black /yellow wire , a good clue if front work and rear don't , please advise .if fronts work then you have a open circuit somewhere between junction S118 (near breakout for left headlamp) and rear sockets.

SOURCE: 2000 Dodge Stratus brake lights don't work

the stratus' are well known for the brakelight switch on the brake pedal going out frequently!!
so go to nearest parts house and buy a brakelight switch, that will most likely fix your problem!!

SOURCE: I have a 02 dodge ram 1500 and the brake lights dont work

I've seen this more than once. Do you have a towing hitch? Sounds like you got a wiring problem with a trailer harness. If you do have a harness then check all the wires to be sure none rubbed through.

Have a 89 ford ranger all lights work except brake lights. I replaced the switch, fuses are good and so are the bulbs. What else could be causing the brake lights not to work??

It could be the turn signal switch, since the brake wire travels through the turn switch after it leaves the brake switch and then goes to the bulbs. That is how you get a steady brake light on one side, and a blinking light on the turning side. The rear turn signal lights and brake lights share the same filament in the bulbs (and the same wire). The wire on the turning side has to first travel through the flasher relay.
If you have a test light, first check for power out of the brake light switch with the pedal depressed. Then check for power in and power out at the turn switch connector-power in on the brake light wire and power out on either of the wires going to the rear bulbs-if no power out, the turn switch is bad-brake pedal still depressed so you still have the signal.

My break lights dont work.fuzes and bulbs are ok ?

For starters it is spelled "Brake" light...LOL . Sounbds like you may have a brake light switch that has gone out. In yor owners manual does it show more than one fuse for the brake lights? Most vehicles with a thrid/highmount brake light split the brake light power to either the left and third brake light and the right brake light or vice versa, or posibble 3rd brake light on its own fuse. I would check if all of the brake light including the 3rd brake light dont work. If no lights work at all it leans toward the switch which controls all or them to activate hence the brake light switch. It should be mounted on your brake peal arm or to the main base. The pedal lever activate the switch when you depress the brake pedal.

No brake lights check fuses no blown fuses but the center brake light work

If the center high mount brake light comes on when brake pedal is depressed, and the rear brakes don`t come on, and the fuses are not blown, then I would replace the rear bulbs.

1999 GMC Envoy: replaced both GE 3057 lamps in left rear light assembly. Lamps both light. However depressing brake pedal does not initiate brake light. The righ rear brake light does work. The high mount...

The high mount brake light has its own fuse, so check that first. The high mount bulb is generally a stabdard type (there may be more than one bulb) or you can replace with an LED. As for the left rear bulbs not working when depressing brake pedal, check the bulbs again for any spring that may be broken. If the bulbs are still good, make sure there is sufficient contact with the socket. If still not working, have someone check it out further.

Left rear brake light stopped working but bulb and fuses are OK.

These are Dual Function Bulbs. They control the Parking Lights and the Brake Lights. This Bulb is Burnt out on the Brake Coil inside the Bulb. I have actually seen Bulbs that were Bad But you could not Tell by jast looking at them. It should be fine with a New Bulb. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
