ok ric , now the tensioner , notice a 15mm bolt head on the tensioner pulley , put a wrench on that 15mm head and turn clockwise , that will unload the tensioner , install your belt according to the belt wrap picture under the hood , release tensioner , and you should be good to go . however ,,,,,
last thing , there are like 5 fuses involved in this circuit , 1.) a 120 amp fuse in the fuse block , left side of engine compartment , 2.) a 60 amp fuse in the same place as #1 , 3.) a 7.5 amp fuse in the relay box - left side of engine compartment , 4.) a 7.5 amp in the left side of dash fuse panel , and 5.) another 7.5 amp fuse in the same panel as #4 . sure is a very well protected circuit ..
good job

Possible Solutions
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.
Hope this helps with your problem. Best of luck.

SOURCE: I have a 1998 olds 88. got p300 code from
P0300 is a generic code to indicate multiple misfires throughout your engine. You do have a 6 cylinder engine and you may have to replace all 6 spark plugs and check all the spark plug wires. The other thing to keep in mind also is, the fuel injectors could be dirty or the fuel pressure may be low causing the misfire. Start with the simple and recheck the spark plug wires and try to replace the remaining 3 spark plugs that was not replaced. Good luck and hope you get your car running 100%, keep me posted and thank you for using Fixya.
