Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

Turned the key, then everything went dead.

Out of the blue, I went to start it, it clicked and everything went dark like it didn't have a battery.  Wouldn't let me turn the key off, either.  I checked the battery, which was full.  After about 10 minutes, the power comes back.

I'll check that. I found the lock release switch. When I turned it to off, the ATC module started clicking, and the fuel gauge went haywire like it was trying to spin a 360 back and forth. I found TSB 3777. I'm going to look into that.

I checked the batt connection and sure enough, the positive was not tight and had corrosion. Everything is better now. Thanks, Whooly.

06 Colbalt Electrical System Dead

I would go to the positive terminal on the battery anjd check for black hard build up on the post and inside the terminal. This is lead sulphate and cause a high resistance to any high current flow. Clean both with sand paper until shiny and refit and tension properly. Do the negative also as it will have build up but to a lesser degree. If the battery lead runs through a connection box Check for tight connections there also. As to towing most towers have a wheel rack that fits under the tyres and lifts them clear of the road so it can be taken to to a shop.

New starter, new relay and new battery...problem is...when I shut off engine and 30 minutes later went out to start again the key turned and nothing happened...it was like the battery was completely dead....

I suspect you have a loose or corroded connection. you should be able to check voltage at relay and if good, jump across from cable coming from battery to terminal from ignition switch. or u can bypass the relay completely by using a jumper cable to go from battery pos to output cable on relay that goes to starter.

My son has 2009 silverado extended cab with 22000 miles, he left his amp on and the battery went dead, so I took my 2009 silverado and tried to jump it. When I turned the key on the display lit up but once...

When a battery is totally dead a jump start will take time. The dead battery needs to come back up to at least 8 volts before it will start. Leave you jumper cables hooked up for a half hour or so and try again. What you really need is a battery charger, even once you get it running the alternator is going to have to run for a really long time to fully charge this battery. Also, you should be able to connect the amp to go off with the deck, it's a little more work but it is well worth the effort.

2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.

Van starts but immediately kills

First thing is to check is all your battery connections and make sure they are clean & tight. Loosen them, pull them off & clean & re-install & tighten. Make sure belt didn't come off. If battery is dead, you'll need a boost or a charge. Shut all accessories off. Once it starts, and you pull cables off, see if it runs on it's own, and get back to us.
