Security is set. Could be one problem. Fuel system can do this, but rarely. Takes a scanner to see where to look first.

2.3 87' stalls while running usually will restart immediately - occasionally will not restart for up to 1/2 hr

you may have a fuel pump going out if you can get it to stall and not start check to see if you have spark if you have spark if probably a fuel problem ,then you will need to check the fuel pressure, same thing make sure it will not start connect a fuel pressure gauge up and see if you have fuel pressure.may also want to change your fuel filter if this has not been done in a while(my have pluged fuel filter)you would see this with a fuel volume test, but the time it take to do the test you can change the 15$ fuel filter out 15 20 min.it should be changed every so often any way.hardest part will be getting it to act up while testing.

89 ranger i was driving than it just stalled. i have spark, i have fuel but no fire. but it wont start, if i put starting fluid in the intake it will run for a second then stall.

If you can keep spraying staring fluid and it stays running then the fuel pump is no pumping. only with a pressure gauge can you test it

Takes time to start up a 1999 Ford Pick Up Ranger

Check the MAP sensor and the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Before you try to start the engine, cycle the ignition 3 times to the run position for 10 seconds apart and then try starting the car. You may be lossing the fuel pressure prime. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to hlep.
