The security, antitheft, or passlock light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link may help you find ways to bypass this or fix it yourself. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
Is there a light that says "Theft System" blinking on your dashboard? That happened to me recently and I had to turn the key to the "ON" position, let it sit there like that for 10 minutes, the light went off, I took the key out, put it back in and the car started right away. Other than that, I really wouldn't know what is wrong with the car. Good luck.
You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.
My 2000 cavalier has done this for 6 months. You take your key out then open your door, wait ten minutes and the system resets itself and the car will start-annoying you bet!!!
The theft passlock is shutting your fuel off try this Put your key in turn it on dont start wait 10mins take key out wait 10seconds repeat 3 times total 30mins. If that dont work try another key do the same process. If this dont work a new ignition switch needs installed by a dealer because reprogramming is needed.Or You are right you can install a bypass switch bulldog.com will tell you how or take it somewhere where they install remote starts and they can do it
If the car starts and dies right away you may have a pass key sensor fault.
Try to start the car,if the car dies right away just leave the key on and watch the security light in the insturment panel,if it begins to blink leave the key on until it stops blinking (apx 10 mins.) this will reprogram the pass lock to the pcm and may solve all your problems.if the car continues to die after running a min or so then you may have other faults,or if the car dies right after start the pass lock sensor may need to be replaced.
Replace the instrument cluster because the original one is bad. Put in the new one. Start the car and it will die after one second because the anti-theft light will blink. Leave the key in the "on" position for 15 minutes. The "Theft Sys" light will stay solid. Turn key off, then start the car and it will run with the new cluster in it.
