2011 Jaguar XJL. Why does my car slow down after going full speed please?

Question edited to clarity.
Question moved to model category.

It has a speed limiter on it because the tyres are not rated for its top speed. I wonder if that is what the 'L' stands for?

https://www.google.com/search?q=2011+jaguar+xjl+speed+governor+problems&

The base car will execute 0-60 mph runs in 5.4 seconds; with the supercharged 470-hp engine, it'll take only 4.9 seconds; and in the Supersport it's estimated at just 4.7 seconds. All versions are limited to a top speed of 155 mph

Have a Kidtrax 12v land rover defender, fully charged the battery, checked output is 12v, but it barely moves

There are possibilities that come to mind.

The first (and I'm not familiar with your specific ride-on) is, often there is a speed limiter that only a parent can remove. It generally limits the speed to 1/2 full speed. Most often this is a screw located on the accelerator pedal that limits the pedal travel to 1/2 full range. Removing this screw will allow the toy to travel about 5 mph.

The second is the battery. Just because it develops 12 volts is no real indication that it can supply sufficient current to the motor. (Think CCA's as related to a car battery). Over-charging by leaving it connected more than 24 hours, or running it completely will damage these batteries and they wi never be able to produce sufficient output.

If there is no limiter artificially holding the speed down, I would try a new battery. Amazon has the best prices.

Speed Limiter/Governor issues 2001 Olds Alero

t there is no mechanical speed governor. It is controlled by the PCM - engine computer which you would have to reprogram to increase the limit. Dealer only

Won't go past 90mph

hello there

it sounds like the speed limiter, there is nothing wrong with the car but the US cars have these silly limiters which will cut off the power. The Suburban will cut out at 99mph, Escaldes at 109 mph etc. the solution is to have the speed limiter removed. it's done electronically so you'll need to find a garage that can remove them.

Hope this helps, please don't forget to rate me.

Removing a speed limiter from a vauxhall combo cdti van

The speed-limiter is likely to be enabled via the ECU. Removing the limiter is a five-minute job if you have access to the GM Tech 2 electronic management/diagnostic tool.

If the van is yours then there's no legal requirement for the limiter. You could just book it in at a Vauxhall dealer for the limiter to be removed. They may charge you for an hour's labour though. Still worth doing in my opinion.

Speed limiter

It's programmed into the ECU - there's nothing you can remove from the car to delete it. You'd have to find someone who can reprogram your car's computer with the speed limiter removed.
