Reset Procedure for your "Maintenance Required" lamp (MAINT REQD)
I get many calls/ emails a week for this procedure...

This is really easy! Follow these directions:

Turn the key ON

Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "ODO" and the total mileage travelled. If it is on "Trip A" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "ODO", and the total miles travelled.

Turn the key OFF.

Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it in.
DO not release it.

Turn the key ON

Observe the Odometer display. The total mileage travelled will disappear, and you will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, the total mileage travelled will redisplay.

Release the black trip meter reset stick.

You do NOT START the vehicle at any time during the reset procedure.
If the engine starts, the procedure will not reset.

This completes the reset procedure, and it will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change.

Hope this helps!

Maintanence required is blinking when starts

Sounds like your car needs a tune up. At a certain mileage the car probably needs an oil change and other maitanence. Go on YouTube and watch a video to reset the button. Good luck.

Advice about removing check engine lights

Disconnecting the battery for one minute will erase the code and reset the light.
If the light was caused by a loose gas cap,it will not come on again unless the problem is still there .
If the light does come back on ,run a diagnostic scan to determine what the cause is.
The maintainance required light is different, that one to reset involves holding in the trip odometer button and while keeping it pushed, turn on the ignition to the last position before "start".in a couple seconds the light will flash and about ten seconds later the maintainance required light will go out.
Turn off the ignition and it is reset.

Maintanence required light

A maintenance required light means some type of maintenance is required on your car. It wont clear until the maintenance is done. Unfortunately you will probably have take it to a dealer for repair and clearing the code.

MAINTENANCE LIGHT IS ON AT 60000 MILES. WHAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM<

The light is telling you that it is time to perform regular maintainance on the vehicle. If it is not reset even after an oil change, after 10,000 miles it will stay on after the vehicle is started and remain on until it is reset. I would suggest getting any required maintainence done on the vehicle but you can reset the light yourself if you want. The way to do it is turn the ignition switch to the off position, engine not running. Push and hold the select/reset button to the right of the speedo in the instrument cluster (see arrow in picture below) and hold. While keeping pressed in, turn the key to the "on" position (not starting the car). Remain holding the button down for about ten seconds or until the light goes off. That should reset the maintanence required light for you and gives you 10,000 mile more until it does it again. I hope this helps and good luck.

Maintanance required light on

turn the key to activate the power but not start the ignition, do this a handfull of times. The check engine light should blink a specific number of times, this can be referenced to identify the problem, after this happens the light should turn off until you have another problem! There's a difference between the "check engine" light and the "engine maintenance required" light (aka "Emission Maintenance Reminder" or EMR light). The EMR light is strickly a reminder that emission system maintenance is due. This includes the EGR valve, PCV valve, & Oxygen sensor. It is program to light at approximately 60,000, 82,500, & 120,000 miles. Because its activated by mileage, it does not necessarily mean that something has malfuction. Unfortunately, the only way to reset it is by using a diagnostic scan tool. Of course, you could always remove the bulb.

2005 honda ex maintanence required light went on

It's a reminder that it's time to do your maintanence(oil change, tire rotation, replace air fliter, etc..your service book will tell you what service your need to do base on the mileage). A lot of the time people just get a oil change and reset the light. The light can be reset at anytime.

With the headlight OFF push and hold the trip/reset button or stick (located in front of the gauge below the MPH speedo) , turn the ignition switch ON (II), and continue to hold the button for more than 40 seconds. If you did it right the light should go out.

good luck

Generally this its one warning to the time mantenance is END, and need change fluids and other components. If the CHECK ENGINE turn on, need scanned the PCM to know any fault code there.

Hope helps.

Hello, I have a 2002 honda civic ex. When I turn the key on I get the maintanence required light. after the engine starts the light blinks 10 times and then goes out. I couldn't find any guidance in the...

First, make sure you are talking about your mainanence required light, and not your check engine light.
Your maintanence required light is telling you that some normal maintanence is required since you have traveled some pre-determined number of miles (pre-determined by Honda). For example, it could mean an oil change should take place, etc. If you keep track of those things on your own, then you need only reset the light, as follows:
Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch just to ON (II). Do not start the car.
Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.
Hope this helps you.

Engine light on dash stays on.

There are two lights you may be getting confused. There is the check engine light and the maintanence required light. The maint req. light can be manually reset by holding down the trip meter button then turning your ignition key forward. You have to hold the button down until the light goes away.
If it is the check engine light you should run a daignostic check for the listed codes.
