Question about Ford F-350

I have a big brake problem. I have now changed every brake line, calipers, pads, master cylinder, shoes, hardware, drums. bled the system and still have no brakes. I adj. the shoes so theres slight drag onn drums and still no E-brake, ABS light wont go off. Please help. i have brought it to two dealers and they havent been able to fix the problem either

YOU SAY ALL THE BRAKE PARTS? BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, THEY ARE A COMMON SOURCE OF THIS PROBLEM, IT CAN BE METAL PARTICLES STUCK TO THEM ( THEY ARE A HALL EFFECT MAGNETIC SENSOR) FROM BRAKE PAD WEAR, ALSO HAVE U ADJUSTED THE E BRAKE SHOES? THEY MUST BE ADJUSTED, IF U ARE IN A SALT STATE THE CABLE ALSO IS AN ISSUE WITH THE E BRAKE ALONG WITH THE WIRING CONNECTORS, LOOK FOR GREEN RESIDUE AND WHITE POWDER ON THE CONNECTOR PINS TO EVERY CONNECTOR IN THE SYSTEM. ALSO PLEASE PROVIDE ALL THE INFO ABOUT THE TRUCK, SUPER DUTY? WHAT YEAR? 4 WHEEL ABS?

I have a 23 t bucket and i cant get a brake pedal.when i bought it had very little brake so i replaced rear shoes and cylinders,front pads and calipers,all new lines and the master cylinder


Once you have bled the air from the brake lines,clamp off the front brake hoses carefully.Does the pedal feel better now?
Then the pad /caliper fit is allowing too much play.Is the pedal the same?Then clamp the rear hose and try the pedal.Is it fine with the rear hose clamped?If so we now know the problem is at the rear brakes.One common low pedal rear brake cause is brake shoes that do not fit the drums.Remove the drums and look at the shoes,are they showing contact wear fully or just in the middle of the shoe?Remove a shoe and place it in the drum.Can you rock the shoe against the drum surface?Once drums have been resurfaced,the shoes will not fit fully against the drum allowing the shoe the flex when applying pressure to it and this can easily create a low soft brake pedal. Of course rear brake adjustment must be correct once brake shoe contact is correct.To correct brake shoe contact,have your shoes re arc-ed to fit resurfaced drums or install new drums.Don't overlook brake master cyl /brake pedal push rod adjustment too.

If you are loosing prime in the system but not loosing fluid my best guess would be the master cylinder.

Brake pedal goes to floor vehicle still stops


Is the brake light on? Check your fluid level. Pedal going to the floor could be because of a leak in the hydrolic system line, hoses, caliper, wheel cylinders, master cylinder internal and external leaks. Can also be because of over sized drums and/or under adjusted brake shoes.

Did you clean the protective covering off the drums and rotors before installing ? Is it possible there is a film of oil on them ?

Hello Patricia,

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

I would go with not bled correctly

The booster should hold up with a hard pedal until
you start the engine, then vacuum causes it to move
down when pressing on the brake

Spongy brake pedal even after ABS bleed and base brake bleed.


Did you adjust the rear shoes out? If the rear drum brakes are out of adjustment they will give you a lot of pedal travel. If the pads are worn have no fear of that U-CLIP brake spring, just change one shoe at a time. Take the spring off one side, change the shoe, put the spring back on the post and do the same to the other shoe, no problem.

After replacing drive side caliper, both front disk brakes, and rear drum brakes, bleed all three lines, both my front calipers lock grinding my front brakes. I am going to re-bleed my lines tomorrow but...


I assume you mean that you replaced the front pads and rear shoes. Or did you also replace the disks and drums?? Either way you should be ok unless you also replaced the slave cylinders on the rears.
The fluid flows back up to the Master Cylinder as you squeeze the calipers and the slaves to fit the new parts in. Some people pre-fill the caliper to reduce the amount of air and make bleeding easier.Now .....Grinding better be a wrong choice of words. Possibly you spilled fluid on the pads while bleeding the lines. This will cause a binding and shuddering when you apply brake pressure. This will also make you think the lines are not bled properly because of the increased pedal pressure you are putting on the wet/lubricated front pads. If so, replace the pads. Don't try washing them with aerosol cleaner cause it takes more time and money than simply changing them.
