We've replaced the battery and the transmission gear signal. Starter is fine; alternator is fine. Diagnostic test reports no error codes so mechanic says he doesn't know what to fix. Dealer wants to replace the front control module for $700, but admits he doesn't know if that will fix the problem. I've already spent $700 on repairs that obviously weren't needed, and I don't know what to do at this point.
After removing the battery or battery lead there are problems created in the ECM and CPU program
It is a good idea to run a scan tool and reset the program and see what happens after that
Testimonial: "We've already done that, repeatedly. No matter what we do or where we take it (two different Chrysler dealers), it still comes back that there is no error so again mechanics say they can't fix it because no problem shows up on the diagnostic scan."
I would find an accredited auto electrician that has a lot of experience on your make of car and ask if there is a light control module fitted
there has to be some connection between the start section of the ignition switch which powers through the neutral /park safety switch that allows the starter to engage
the problem becomes apparent when the gear selection panel is lit as the power to the starter is being messed up because the park/ neutral switch is taken out of the circuit and the system reads that it is in gear
it could be a simple problem neutral/ park switch, shorting wires or maybe a faulty ignition switch
all of this is not reportable as a fault code so experience with auto electrics on your vehicle has become necessary
