Question about 1992 Honda Accord

I bought my 1992 Honda Accord 5spd with 125k. It would stall and not start when it was real hot out. I replaced the main relay, and it seem to be ok for a couple of weeks, with exception to an erratic idle when hot at stoplights and a "gasping sound coming from the intake/air filter immediately after shutting off. But then it died two days ago and hasn't started since. The temp guage on the dash was raising at every stoplight, but would drop immediately upon acceleration. I do hear the fuel pump when I put it in the on pos. When I bought the car the guy that sold it to me replaced the radiator right in front of me and I dont remember him bleeding anything. when I take my gas cap off (eng hot) there is quite a bit of air trapped in the tank. Radiator hoses seem to be ok also. The radiator cap looks worn, not much pressure there. So idle surges(500-800-500), on a cold start idle is high (1,500-1,700), overheats at stoplights and

Your car needs a 'complete tuneup'. clean the EGR port, remove the throttle body and clean - don't just spray, its not enough, remove all vacuum hoses and clean and brush all ports that are connected to the plenum, remove anyports that are connected to the plenum and clean them also, remove the plenum and brush and clean the ******. if you have time, take out the intake manifold and clean also....and that should do it.

1992 Honda Accord won't start when hot- main rely?

the relay that you are speaking of would be my primary suspicion. it is called a main relay, they typically run about $50 - $80. these are common for the contacts wearing out and becoming inopperable when hot, and not allowing the fuel pump to power up. good luck!

Loczation of the main relay 1992 honda accord with a 5 spd.

Check under the hood, there is a cover that is labeled, pop off the cover to expose the relays, there are also some at the fuse block located under the dash on the driver side.

Hi, I think it is your main relay. It is a major problem when the car get really hot inside. One very hot day last july my 1991 accord wagon would not start. Left it sit till the next moring(cooler temp). It started right up. Check out rockauto.com. They have the cheapest $ on new main relays. sd

My 1999 Honda Accord shuts off at random times and at random speeds. Mechanic cannot find the problem. How can I suggest he/she proceed? 125k km After shutdown, difficult starting.

Check out the other posts about this problem including the Civic. Hondas have a serious problem with the main relay. It does happen more when the car is hot. Good luck.
