This is usually a sign that the radiator has failed since the oil cooler goes though a internal tank on the side of the radiator which is separate from the engine coolant, but when the tank cracks or leaks you will have mixing oil with coolant.. if over 200k miles I’d also get your head gaskets checked.

Hi there !
Manual transmissions don't have an oil dipstick, All they have is a plug that should be somewhere around top of your transmission.

purchase a special o2 sensor removal tool from an auto tool shop. when replacing do not use any sealants or neversieze as ther affect the continuity of the current and affect the CPU reading the sensor.

Nissan Maxima. Can a water pump or thermostat cause mixing oil and water?

Question edited for clarity.

No to both. The water pump is chain driven and takes water from one side and pumps it out under pressure from the other. The thermostat is fully enclosed in a housing with no access to oil.

Oil in Coolant only comes from a failed head gasket where the oil and water channels are in close proximity and under combustion pressure of hundreds of pounds.

Water pumps are designed to pump water through the engine, radiator, and heating system. Water pumps will not cause oil to enter the cooling system.Oct 4, 2016
