Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

The door master window switch has stop working, it has power going to it (red wire is hot all the way to the unit)but the only thing that works is the drivers side power lock. The passager side works fine but the rear widows are also not working.

Check the ground attach a 12v test light to battery positive and prob the ground circuit. If it does not light up check the wiring in the door jam were the hinge is seen lots of broken wires in there before.

Can you help with power windows?

What type of vehicle? Does the drivers window work?

May 01, 2015 | Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Power windiws will not work

So no windows work? Is the window safety lock off? . What year and model? Some power windows have fuses, some have relays, and some (most) have circuit breakers which automatically reset.
One thing all have in common is that the driver's door switch is called the master switch. From the (?circuit breaker?), and with the key on, one hot wire will come into the master switch connector- it is only hot in on or run. And the ground for the power windows starts at this switch and goes back into the cabin to a nearby ground. If no windows work and no liquid was just recently spilled on the master switch, you need to check for broken wires in the door opening. The multi-wire harness in the door opening may be covered by a rubber boot-peel it back or take it off and check the wiring. The ground wire is usually black. A wiring diagram would indicate the color of the power wire. If you have a voltmeter or test light, and can get at the connector for the master switch, turn the key to on and probe all terminals in the connector. There should be one hot wire to the connector for the windows. If you have it, and it is not for the locks or some other function, then possibly the master switch is bad or the ground wire is broke or not connected.
On some vehicles, the master switch can be removed from the door panel to get at the connector. On others, the door panel has to be removed first to get at the switch and connector.

I am putting doors on my 1984 ford f150 from a 1985 ford firo which has power windows I need a diagram to wire power to the switches

You don't need a diagram, just power thru the doors at the hinge. Run 2(two) wires, one black and one red, thru an opening at the door hinge, even if you have to make the opening. Go to any fuse in the panel and find which is the hot side by pulling the fuse and test for the hot side. Stick a fuse tap on that side of the fuse and put the fuse back in. Get this fuse tap from any auto parts store. Get a pack of female spade connectors to connect the red wire of the wire size needed. Size 10 will do for this. Get some size 10 straight connectors also. Connect the red wire to the hot wire going to the window motor. Connect the black wire to the ground wire on the motor. now connect the other end of the black wire under the head of a bolt under dash. First in mind though, be sure the fuse you connect the red wire to is switch activated when on and off when switch is off. Power windows are great when you gottem. I plan on doing my Toyota with window power units from an Oldsmobile. It will happen. Breeze on Bro.

Electric windows not working

Check the fuses first and then the window switches themselves. You will have to remove them and put a meter on them. You can cross the wires to see if the window will go up or down. If you can do it by crossing the wires then the switch is bad.

Does a 1987 gmcjimmy s-15 have a power window relay ot any relays at all cuz my power windows stoped working it runs a 30 amp circut breaker can the circut breaker go bad?

Anything can go bad, but to my knowledge circuit breakers seldom do. If you have a test light, pull the circuit breaker and probe both terminals for a power signal, with the key on. One terminal should show voltage with key on. If not, check the power distribution box for a blown maxi-fuse, or the wiring from that box to your fuse panel.
BTW, no, no relays are in the window circuit. So if the circuit breaker has power to it, put it back in and check for power on the driver's door master switch-one wire on the master should have voltage with key on. If no hot wire to the master switch, check inside the door openings for a broken wire. If you do have one hot wire there. check the power windows ground-the ground wire for the power windows originates at the master switch and goes back into the cabin to a nearby ground. Put one lead of the test light on the hot wire (key on), and probe the ground terminal at the master switch-if your ground is good, the test light will light up. If the ground is lost, no light. Check for a broken ground wire in the door opening, and/or find the ground and see if it is bad. If the master switch has a hot wire and a good ground wire, replace the master switch.

Windows dont work on 1993 regal

If none of the windows work check for power to the master switch in drivers door, key on. If no power, feed power to hot wire, probubly red wire. If windows works, check for broken wire inside drivers door opening in rubber boot.
That was a common problem on GMs.
Could also be master switch if it's getting power.

1996 suzuki sidekick sport jlx all four power windows and door locks quit at the same time

Look for broken wires leading into the driver's door. Have you already checked for a fuse problem? The windows and locks may be fused, or they may be on a circuit breaker. Sounds like power is not getting to the master switch, or the ground for it is lost. If you have a voltmeter, you can check for power and ground right at the master switch. The switch will have one hot wire to it with the key on, and one ground wire from the switch back into the cabin and then to ground somewhere, probably close by.
Ground a voltmeter or test light, pull the master switch connector apart, turn key on, and probe the connector for one hot wire. If you have it, good. If no power, again check for broken wires at the door. To check the ground wire, put positive lead on the hot wire, and the negative lead into the ground terminal source at the connector. If the ground is good, the meter will show battery voltage, or the testlight will light up. If the ground is lost, you will get nothing on the meter or testlight.

Power windows not working on 2002 ford tarus please help

Most cars use a circuit breaker on the fuse box, rather than a fuse. The problem is likely the master switch on the driver's door, or the hot wire to the master switch, or the ground for the power windows. You will need to pull off the masterswitch and check for a hot wire there with the key on. Before you buy a new master switch, find and check the ground. A lot of times the wires will chafe and break right where they go into the door.
