Pop the Hatchback open and remove the connectors
from the top of the bumper cover.
Optional Step: Using a Floor Jack, raise both sides
of the car in the back, supporting both sides with
jack stands, and remove the rear wheels.
Using Torx Bits, remove the inner rear wheel well
lining.
Get behind the rear wheel well and loosen the bolts
holding the bumper brackets on. They're pretty
difficult to find and remove. Be Patient. Do the
same to the other side.
Remove the rear bumper cover by pulling the cover
outward from the part nearest the wheel on both
sides. Once removed, take off the 2 black mounting
brackets from the bumper cover.
1. Remove rear combination light assembly. A. Remove two mounting screws. B. Disconnect electrical connector from rear side of light assembly.
2. Remove bumper assembly. A. Remove four fasteners and four retaining screws from top of bumper assembly. B. Remove mud flap from bumper assembly. C. Remove two screws from bottom of bumper assembly. D. Remove two screws from side of bumper assembly. E. Remove four bumper mounting bolts from under of vehicle.
3. Install rear bumper in reverse order of removal.
1. Open liftgate.
2. Remove both taillight assemblies by removing 2 hex-head bolts located in the area revealed when the liftgate is opened.
3. Remove 4 plastic retainers on the very bottom of the bumper cover in the rear.
4. Remove 2 phillips head screws in the wheel well rear lip.
5. Remove 4 pop-up plastic retainers in liftgate area. Use two screw drivers to lift the head and then pull the entire retainer out.
6. Remove a hex-head bolt from each side in the area revealed when the taillight assembly was removed.
7. Bend the bumper cover outward on each side to clear the wheel well lip and remove the bumper. Have a blanket or carpet on the ground to protect the bumper.
8. Remove metal clips from tabs that connect the upper bumper cover to the lower bumper cover.
9. Drill out pop-rivets that connect upper bumper cover to lower bumper cover.
10. Push tabs out of slots to separate the upper and lower bumper covers.
11. Release tab locks on chrome trim pieces and remove from upper bumper cover.
12. Reverse this process to replace the bumper cover.
I have a 1997 Hyundai Sonata, mine was located behind the rear drivers side tire; between the rear drivers side tire, and the rear bumper, lay under the rear bumper on that side and it might be there, it was for me... My bracket rusted out and made the canister drag on the ground, oops! but I hope this helps!

go to a friend or a bodyshop. get a bumper adjuster. it has a 3 to 4 foot handle on it, with a hook on the other end. you can easly bend a bumper where you want it...
Should look for the bumper shocks and remove which ever is easiest, remove bumper then remove cover , replace cover and reinstall bumper, watch out for wires and clips might hold cover to side plastic.
