2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Won't restart after brief shutdown. Turn key, no response. Flat bed towed, then restarts.

    There's a difference here. Tycially the car will crank vigorously, but no ignition. I can run the battery down, but nothing more. So there's either some form of short term electrical connection failure or some fuel issue. Isuspect an electrical failure.

    The battery has been replaced twice during this time.

    the engine (size not stated) 3 engines.!
    2 gas 1 diesel.
    is fully EFI , electronic fuel injection and electronic spark so yah it's electric big time, (maybe, but that is only a guess, or more accurate a rumor)
    if the car sometimes runs ok, full power.
    we might say, engine is ok. (if hot didnt stick open a head valve and that be not electric)
    what your mech, will do is check for spark.
    x6 (we scan first to save TIME and not chase tail.)
    want to gue$$ or test?

    check for spark if you have a v6 with 8 cop coils that is hard,
    mine has V6 with a single coil pack and spark testing is childs play , unlike COPS
    but the 2000 I6 has this huge RAIL pack with no HV wires, be nice to know engine there. right?

    if spark is good the test fuel works for 3 seconds. yes?
    i think your post should read.
    cranks ok, but hot soak ,the engine will not start but cranks ok.
    when you stop and engine, it can be cold , warm or hot. all three can different results.
    Ok got spark
    if you have scan tool it will show P03xx errors for why the ECU is killing spark
    ever get a full tuneup this decade?

    lets play hot , no start. cold is ok.
    1: engine lots compression... can happen.
    2: lost spark if true ecu cuts fuel.
    3: lost fueling (dry plug and test fuel works)
    4: engine flooding. (spark tips wet? with fuel)
    4 steps 4 tests and SOLVED, or at the least
    know why its not running. in 99% of cases.

    most folks are lazy and start at 2, cant blame them... but if all tests fails, we go back to #1 bad engine. lost compression. hot.

    i never guess, (rare exceptions)
    i test and let my tests accurately take me to why it not running, called Diagnosis.

    the only time we guess is when compression drops. we go , is it valve stuck open.
    well we can hear that with a leak down gauge.
    using a rubber hose to the ear...
    oops one of 2 intake valve leak , which one
    who cares, it head off time.
    there are over 10 test do and 10 just on fueling so 20 total , but in most cases just one.
    eg> omg no spark? but testing spark on the I6 is a PITA.... cops are more easy but hard.


    questions all i have are questions and tests.
    after all , im blind here. handycapped. big time... even no hands...
    WJ jeep engine is
    4.0L I6 , has huge direct fire coil RAIL.!
    or 4.7L V6??? has COP coils. x6
    omg , 3.1 diesel? zero spark.

    and last do you understand how the ASD works

    when cranking the ASD must close for at least 2-3 seconds.
    if not bingo.
    if not the PCM tells you
    if how ever the ASD energizes but drops in 2 seconds, bingo 2, the scan tool tells you why.
    so now you KNOW, not SCAN toll , NO JOY.
    you cant work modern cars blind, its not going to work out.

    get an INNOVA 3160 and scan it cranking for 5 seconds.... bingo?
    or are all the spark plugs bad.? never changed in 15 years. omg is that even possible
    NO! but are the 10 years old, 5 years?

    buy charger this time, not new batteries.
    10x cheaper... and lasts a life time.
    (pay back each time used for a life time)
    mines like 45 years old now, still kick;'n

    it shows all jeep codes, even the full factory special codes like P1xxx p2xxxx etc.

    think of SPOCK,!
    he mind melds the PCM
    and goes, CAPTAIN, the PCm says the CMP is dead. what's that captain? klinglon codes?

    if engine is impulse power (i6) or warp drive

    when it fails to start in 3 seconds
    checks:
    head lights work?
    key on CEL lamp glows? it must...
    voltmeter show 12v. on dash? with HL on?
    it cranks, so stater is connected to battery good.
    next is scan tool... not cranking battery flat.
    or check for spark or all fuses.
    this I6 is pain to check spark. in 2000.
    my 3.8L is easy, but you dont have one.

    rail pack
    dont get shocked do this, it's a hands off test. stay back. hands in pockets best.
    let helper crank.

    if V6, it's cop off, plug in test spark plug to cop
    crank it, then repeat. 1 to 6.
    we use a battery jumper cable frombattery ground and to spark shell, so the shell is grounded hands off. see?
    or buy a clip style spark tester.

Locked my keys in the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

there are only x numbers of solutions.
1: lock smith. (call them)
2: spare key , it had 2 new. so have family member get it to you.
3: break the cheapest glass in car. and gain entry.
4: jimmy sticks will fail. but, is always on the list. (skills vary)
5: tow car to any shop and ask them to cure it. call AAA tow?

1995 jeep cherokee 4wheel drive my right back has brake fluid spilling all out it all over rim i just had it towed AA the guy towed it 1 block and then called for a flat bed truck do you think something...

I would say if it did not leak before the tow that they definitely did something to it during the tow. They probably hooked a hook around the rear end and tore the brake line. If you have any more questions about this feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them.

What is O/D button on Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited for?

the Overdrive button puts it into a mode for towing.

If you are towing something press the button to turn off the overdrive function, for better pulling torque.

Where is the fuel filter on a 2000 grand cherokee

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD 4.0L MFI 6cyl:
The Fuel Filter is located under vehicle, driver side, below bed area, front of fuel tank, mounted on chassis in fuel line.

When i drive my 2000 jeep grand cherokee some times it just shuts off and i cant get it started for 10 min at a time or some times after it runs it would only go 50 yards or so and then shuts off. im...

Check the automatic shutdown relay (ASR) in your fuse box under the hood close to the battery. Try switching the relay with an other relay and see if your still have the problem, the other thing that can cause this is a bad sensor like the cam shaft sensor or crank case sensor going bad. Try switching the relay first then if there is no change, try pulling a dtc code from the computer, Here is a link and hope it helps, keep me posted. Does the jeep shut off when hot and restart after awhile? This could be a crank sensor problem.
