You could use two resistors, Two different ohms specs for full and empty. Place resistor between proper wire colors in diagram. Turn on the key, If gage reacts properly to full and empty resistors, then I think the problem is the sending unit in gas tank. If not, the problem could be almost anywhere, wiring circuit--pcm--instrument cluster. I did see trouble codes relating to fuel gage sending unit. I hesitate to get into that? good luck
Ignition or fuel problem probably . When you turn the key to start does the engine spin ? Crank no start or nothing happens NO CRANK - NO START ?
If the engine spins an does not start an run you need to test to see what's missing Spark or fuel . Pull a spark plug wire off a spark plug an stick a screw driver in the end an hold it near ground (metal) and have someone try to start the vehicle ! Is there spark ? Spray starting fluid into the engine , does it start then ?
Videos on youtube showing how to do these tests
the little black pin is to stop the needle going back dont think a jump start would cause that but if when you jump start and terminals are reversed polarity if could fry the battery cels
You probably have a bad sending unit for the fuel level in the tank. this would cause the gauge to be erratic when the level is below 1/2 tank and the float is moving around much more than when full. The oil pressure gauge problem could be caused buy a loose wire connection or a faulty sending unit.
General Motors fuel pumps are good at giving the mixed signals your talking about, when you turn the key on can you hear the fuel pump run?? if not you may want to check the fuel pump relay.... theres nothing you can do with the jumping needle unless you replace the pump.
HiYour battery is not fully charged, jump start vehicle and take it to and AutoZone or similar auto parts store to have your charging/starting system checked for free.
On the gauges issue, you have to remove the instrument cluster and manually turn/reset the gas gauge. I have a 98 Olds Intrigue and happened a few times. I pull the gauge needle out and set it where it would be if the key where OFF, then plug the electrical connector on the cluster and turn the key to ON to verify gauge positions, on my case, I had to reset the temp. gauge too.
Good Luck! Don't forget to rate this post!!
fuel level sensor it will eventually set a check eng light. the unit is on top of the fuel pump assembly it is a little black sensor that can be changed by itself or if u wish a new pump assembly will fix it also.
