Question about 1996 Dodge Stratus
'96 Dodge Stratus ES 2.5L V6 AT
Seems to have lost third and fourth gears; whenever the transaxle tries to shift to either one, the engine revs wildly like it's in neutral, then the transmission drops back to 2nd and locks there in 'limp home' mode until I turn the car off and on again. This happens in the "D" position and when using the autostick feature (which is how I found out that 4th gear is gone as well).
I've cleaned the contacts on both the TCM and the solenoid pack, and replaced the input speed sensor. Was looking suspiciously at the solenoids before I realized 4th was gone too; now I'm thinking this is a lot more serious, as in bands/clutches/transmission rebuild time.
Anything else I can do before I start hunting down a used transmission? I'm stumped at this point.

I was told to change my Transmission Control Module, located on the transmission . You can get it new for under $200 but, I was advised to get it from a junk yard it's alot cheaper and its easier. I hope this helps

Change your speedometer sensors, one might be bad, but change both to be sure, then reset computer. To get transmission out of safe mode. Check and be sure your transmission fluid is ok while car is running and on flat ground. If low be sure to use right fluid, wrong fluid can cost you a transmission
