Question about 1993 BMW 3 Series

1995 325i, blower motor blows with no air out of the vents. Where is the input ductwork for the blower motor? Is it right above the radiator? because that hose assembley is all rotted out. thanks

If you had rats or some other type of wild life in your heating vents, it would be my guess that they dragged some nesting material like paper, rags, straw into your heating ductwork. Just a guess.

If the problem is a lack of air flow from the vents, and you suspect the blower motor is not running at times, you would need to test the blower relay and blower motor for power and ground when it is not working.

Overheating


check the fan relays on the sides of the radiator. Check for right amount of antifreeze in radiator. Change the Thermostat (it's a pain to remove it, so you might as well change it with a new one). The driver's side radiator cooling fan should always work, and turns on-off according to engine temp. The passenger-side radiator cooling fan ONLY comes on when the A/C is running. IF it doesn't come on when the A/C is on, check the operation of the Blower motor (blows air out of your A/C vents). IF it doesn't work, check the Blower Motor RESISTOR (mounted inside the Blower Motor housing). See picture - RESISTOR is #5.

the blower motor is under the hood on the pass side. u have to remove the wiper and radiator bottles and also the head light. than take out the 7 bolts that hold the blower motor in than u have to remove the squirel cage before the motor will come out. or it could be the Blower Motor Resistor.

There is 3 actuators. One of them controls how much outside air gets mixed in with it.
The other controls how much hot/cold air is mixed, and one that directs the air. Floor to defrost. Which one was you looking at? The one that go's from floor to defrost is closest to driver side, under dash. The one that controls hot and cold is about in the center at the bottom of the ductwork. And the outside air is before the blower.

I would say that it is the mixer one. You say you can see it moving freely? I know in my truck, the stem broke loose from the flap inside the duct work. It would just blow hot air though. And lots of it. Or it would go to freezing cold. And get stuck there. Whenever I tried to turn it down a little.

Take the screws out of the bottom ductwork. That is the big vent comming from the blower over to the driver side. And check it out. Could have something stuck, Ink pen or something. And make sure actuator go's both directions and shuts off. I seen them get stuck trying to turn in one direction until it hits a switch and stops.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Refer to the Air Bag section at the beginning of this Section, and disarm the Air Bag system. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the glove box assembly.
  3. Remove the right and left side sound insulators.
  4. Remove the heater ductwork.
  5. Disconnect the hose harness from the actuator.
  6. Disconnect the actuator rod or lever.
  7. Remove the mode, recirc, or A/C-defrost actuator. To install:
  8. Install the actuator.
  9. Connect the actuator rod or lever.
  10. Connect the hose harness to the actuator and fully seat.
  11. Install the heater ductwork.
  12. Install the right and left side sound insulators.
  13. Install the glove box assembly.
  14. Refer to the Air Bag section at the beginning of this Section, and arm the Air Bag system.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota and the problem I'm having is that the A/C doesn't blow very hard at all. The blower motor is running and I can cycle it through various speeds/vent settings without issue, it...


The blower side of the a/c evaporator core in the ductwork may be partially plugged with crud that gets into the fan and ducts from the grill area ahead of the windshield. This gunk coats the evaporator core fins and prevents air from passing through it and results in a large loss of airflow. Often you can remove the blower motor and look into the ductwork and see the evaporator core. You may have to use a mirror to do so but odd are you'll see a gray coating of crud coating the aluminum core fins. I use compressed air with a long blow nozzle that I can bend as needed to get up to the core and blow off as much of the crud as possible. You never get it all off but usually can get back about 90% of your airflow. If you can't get to the evaporator core then the ductwork may need to come apart enough to clean it out. A borescope works pretty well to see up in these areas so if you have access to one of those it helps quite a bit. Good luck!

Air and heat not blowing air through vents


Either Your fan switch is burned out or you blower motor is no good, your blower motor is on the passenger side under the dash. Before you replace any parts you need to check your fuses and relays under your hood and in the car. Usually if your fan switch goes bad you will still get some air blowing thru the vents, so my guess would be blower motor, If its not a blown fuse or relay.

Barely any heat coming from vents blower motor working


check the coolant level & condition of antifreeze make sure it is not dirty/rusty/muddy if thats ok try a new thermostat & radiator cap if the antifreeze is muddy you may have to blow out the heater core

2001 Suzuki XL-7. Heater blows hot one side, cold the other.


No ductwork [to the lower vents] under the dash. They are part of the heater core / blower housing is integrated (all one piece).

After reviewing shop manual, we suspect that one of the three damper flaps is not positioning correctly; or debris has blocked one side (which makes more sense given the symptoms).

We're waiting for the temperatures to get back in the plus numbers to check out the physical arrangement.
