It is best to remove the water from the tank
this can be done by removing the outlet hose from the fuel pump and running the pump into a bucket
that will drain the tank and most of the water out
as water and fuel do not mix you will be able to drain the bucket back into the fuel tank as you will see the water in the bottom of the bucket
next you can put about 1 quart of methylated spirits into the tank
connect the fuel line back up and run the engine
the metho breaks down the surface tension of the water and it will go through the equipment and be burnt in the combustion process
there are products that you can put in the tank to do the job also
changing a fuel filter may help but generally fuel conditioners and clean fuel along with a good run (100 miles ) will clean out the system

Im pretty sure I ran my 2011 cvt mitsubishi lancer out of gas but after putting in 2gallons it had a couple rough starts but won't start at all now

There still may not be enough gas in it. When you run a vehicle completely dry it takes a quite a bit to get it running again. You have to get the gas all the way through the gas lines and to the motor. Try turning your key over just a notch (not so to start it). That will turn your fuel pump on. Give it a few minutes. Do not push on the gas more than a few times. If that does not work you may need more gas

How do I remove water out of gas tank?

pull the tank and drain all the fluid out . Put in about 2 quarts of metholated spirits and swirl the tank around so that any remaining water is mixed with the spirits ( metho breaks down the surface tension of water and holds it in suspension--any metho left in the tank will pass through the system with no ill effects)

My 2002 chrys sebring check engine light came on today but car running good...what could this be ?

This could be absolutely anything!! From an 02 sensor to a MAP sensor. Most likely it is going to be something no too important because if the car is running good then its not effecting anything to greatly. What you can do is stop at your nearest pep boys or autozone retail store and they will plug your car in for free of charge!! Then you will know exactly what is going on with your vehicle.

About a gallon of water was put into my gas tank by mistake by my idiot friend. The car been started and ran for a min before I realized what was up when the car died and wouldnt restart. My friend removed...

First put in 5 gallons of gas or more and also add 91% rubbing alcohol in the tank - 2 full bottles

also replace the fuel filter now - before you move on - unless you have a lot of time to waste - change the filter now - and you will be ok.

Under 1/2 tank, truck boggs down when step on gas

It is sludge and water in the tank. When you fill it water goes to the bottem of the tank and the good fuel goes on top where the fuel pump is.

Original gas tank replaced because of holes. New

It sounds like the new gas tanks do not have a breather fitted to them.

As you remove gas from the tank it needs to be replaced with air if not it creates a vacuum and natures way of filling a vacuum it to compress the space it is in

Fill a plastic soda bottle with fairly hot water , give it a minute then pour the water out and quickly screw the top on , watch the effect , that is your gas tank

There is either a metal or rubber tube or even a vent in the filler cap to allow air in

You did something to alter that ?

I have a volvo 850 '97 -- Last Thursday my son lost the gas cap off the gas tank and never said anything about it. On Friday I was going to the mall and right at the highway the car shuts off completely, I...

How much water do you think got into the tank? If the fuel door was closed it could not have been much. You need to have the tank drained to get all the water out, and then add a fuel dryer liquid to get any residual moisture out. After you son has done all of this, it should run fine and you should not have to replace the pump.
