My 1999 Dodge Caravan is leaking a light brown fluid on the passengar side, under the car.

Place a piece of white paper/cardboard on the ground below where the leak is coming from soon after the engine is turned off. This should help you locate where exactly the oil is dripping from, and should help identify what is leaking. If the oil is black/brown/gold, it's probably engine oil. If it's reddish/brown, it's probably transmission fluid. If it's clear, it may be brake fluid or power steering fluid (from the rack/pinion). Check the fluid levels for whatever you determine it may be. If it's engine oil, you may have leaking valve cover gaskets or a leaking rear seal on the engine. If it's transmission fluid, you may have bad transmission cooler lines or leaking from axle seals. Check the master cylinder and brake lines if it's brake fluid, and check the rack/pinion if it's power steering fluid.

Check your brake master cylinder-your reservoir should be low if the master cylinder failed, and fluid could leak into the brake booster. Might be how the fluid winds up down below the brakes.

Also, could be from the clutch, if you have a manual with hydraulic clutch. Whichever it is will require replacing. Are any abs lines up under dash?

Try topping up with brake fluid . If that dosent work. brake sensor could be damaged if stays on all the time may have a leak in brake pipe.

You need to look around, shine a flash light around the sides, top, bottom, and front and back of radiator, and around the radiator cap, look for any white or rusty brown stains. This should help you in your diagnosis. It is possible to leak from the drain but it would not just start out of the blue. If you are leaking from the drain there is another issue such as high pressure in the coolant system which could come from a failing thermostat or water pump, or a serious clogging problem.

I have water coming from under the dashboard as well when the A/c is running. My fathernlaw is a mechanic and he thinks the drain for thea/c is plugged underneath. He says you must have the vehicle on the hoist and get it from underneath. I am having other issues with my Dodge caravan, and is been in the shop, so I have not had a chance to get under and look at it and try to fix it
