If I knew how to disconnect the steering wheel controls I would do that, but don't quite have the schematics to know where the connections are. Nonetheless thanks for the information. I hope to follow up with my mechanic, who has been trying to tell me that I need a whole new radio. Thanks for all your help.

Why does my stations change when I hit the volume control on my steering wheel on my 2012 avalanche Ltz

That's odd - I am not aware of any configuration change that can be made to the radio that could change the operation of this switch. So, I think the problem may be internal to the radio (not interpreting the input of this switch correctly). You could try resetting the radio (and all other modules) by carefully removing the negative battery cable for a few minutes.

My radio knobs and display stopped working, but the stations can be changed with the steering wheel controls.

Hello Monica Briggs,

I've been into three different "wheel control" sound systems...

One for sure had a SEPARATE FUSE for the radio (FACE versus STEERING-WHEEL) controls...
(that was ... Find THE OPERATED FUSE & replace it).

Two was a SIMPLE RESEAT (unplug/re-plug) of the REMOVABLE face plate...

Three most interesting by far was a STUNNED radio...
Last operated from the steering wheel ... would respond to no inputs (any-source).

Thanks to Bill Gates (BLUE SCREEN of D**TH) training the WORLD on the POWER-RESTART ... We simply disconnected the CAR Battery for a minute... put it back together... set the time & stations.. and pretended we knew what we were doing...

Hope this is at least inspiring... Good luck.

If perchance your vehicle is a popular USA model... look

Bulletins***... (registration required (but well worth it)).

Otherwise search your Model+WORKSHOP+REPAIR+MANUAL

***Bulletins: is where I found a clogged A/C drain was causing water damage to a HIGH-END Toyota sound system.

Lexus problems

I've had this problem in the past and it's down to 2 possibilities. 1 is the radio controls on the steering wheel sticking or shorting , especially when turning the steering wheel if your automobile has radio controls on the steering wheel. 2 the radio has a shorted circuit board on the back of the radio face.

Why do my seek button, power button and the bluetooth not work

Are these on the radio itself or on the steering wheel? If the radio, you may need to pull the radio fuse (Warning! This will delete any and all saved Bluetooth devices, radio station presets, clock, eq settings, bal and fade settings, etc) and then try it again. If the issue is with the steering wheel controls, and you have an aftermarket radio most often you will need an adapter to connect the new radio to the steering wheel as well as a radio that has that capability.

What's causing my radio to change stations on its own

One cause could be if the steering wheel is cleaned with any liquid or treated with something like Armorall this could get down into the switches that control the radio and cause this condition.

2009 Potiac g6 My radio controls on my steering wheel are not doing what they are supposed to be doing for example my pre set button which is supposed to go to my set stations now seeks through all the...

Have you spilled anything on the steering wheel, or during detailing spraying any sort of cleaner on the steering wheel? These are simple contact pad type switches which can be impacted by soiling. Also, could be loose connections in the harness if you've had any custom work done recently.
Now, do NOT attempt to disassemble the steering wheel unless you are a very good mechanic. You could inadvertently discharge your airbag, or cause other problems.

This is really something you should consult with a local certified mechanic or your dealer.

Steering wheel controls for Cruise Control and radio are not working. What can cause this

I want to hook my IPod directly to the aux port of my radio and I want it to charge the iPod as well as play the music. Is there a cable that does both music input and power charging? I have a 2001 Tahoe...

You can get a Peripheral PXDX and connect it to you AUX port on the back of you radio. The interface can be tucked behind the dash with the docking cable being the only part hanging out-to connect your ipod to. You can change songs from your radio control head-or steering wheel controls-if your vehicle has them. The docking station charges your Ipod while it's connected. Peripheral has a website you can read about the interfaces. They are available on ebay for under $100. I have the interface in two of my vehicles. The only problem is, you can't see which track is playing on your radio, but you are able to skip through tracks either by Ipod control or radio head.
