Question about 1995 Geo Metro

1 Answer

Hi we just recently bought a used 95 geo metro from a little old lady who barely put 75,000 kms on it. We recently needed to replace a few brake lines (pretty standard for a car that hasnt been running for a while) and after we got it back from the garage we broke down in the middle of a car wash due to a failed battery. The guy from the garage failed to inform us that he had to jump the battery a couple times to get it going while he worked on the car. We got someone to give us a jump, charged the car up and turned the car on/off several times for a few days after and everything was fine. All of a sudden the battery doesnt work again today. Do we just need our battery replaced or is it draining fast for another reason?

Timing belt geo metro 95 hatchback

roll the crankshaft pulley around until u get the mark to line up with 0 or TDC. once u get the cover off mark the cam sproket to the head with whiteout and mark the crank gear to the block also. (in case they move on you. loosen tensioner and pry to one side.tighten tensioner bolt and remove the belt. install new belt and get the slack to move toward the tensioner side. (u may have to move the cam slightly to allow all the slack to go toward the tensioner. then move it back to the mark, making sure the crank didnt move. loosen tensioner bolt and let it spring toward the belt and apply pressure with yr hand a little more snug while u tightn bolt. then rotate the crankshaft 2 revolutions by hand and your marks should line back up. if the marks are more than 1/2 tooth off u must re do it!

1994 Metro Geo rough idling and lagging up hills

dunno if it'll fix it- but check your pcv valve - 5$ for a new one - also check your egr valve- should be able to move depress it with your finger- if not, carb cleaner is safe to use to clean it up- remove it and clean it. this should help the idle

My brother did this same swap a couple years ago. He had to get the whole harness from the 96; including the computer to make it run right.

It's actually super easy.
All you need is your year and make alternator belt and a wrench.
Take off the existing altenator, take off the old belt.
Once the altenator is off you'll be able to look further down below where the altenator was. You'll see a metal wheel that's a little bigger than the one on the altenator. This is where the new belt needs to wrap around.
I found it alot easier to wrap the belts around the two wheels before putting the altenator back on the engine.
Make sure that all bolts and seals are sound. (that's the last thing you need falling off in the middle of nowhere!)
Hope it helped!
