ok, i tell you 3 possible causes.
check maf sensor connection , check fuel pressure regulator (max press fuel in rail 40 psi) , check engine compression (min 95 psi ) if less this cause spark plugs wet and not start

Yes...check the pump, filter and output. Also check the ballast resistor for the pump. Stop pouring fuel into the cylinder...instead, use carb cleaner and spray into throttle body (excess fuel in one cyl will contaminate your engine oil). If it runs normally after you get it started likely the pump is good (unless you have problems at high rpm's under power) Regulator is likely good as well...default is to more fuel not less.

SOURCE: cranking issues

Hi
This issue is caused by a fault in the evap. emmision system. In the engine compartment there is a purge valve that takes in engine vaccum and fuel vapours. The valve is malfunctioning. It is located on the right side of the intake planum.

Are you sure you have correct timing? its definetly a fule problem, if timing is good then turn your key to the on position and try to listin for the fule pump to prime. While the key is in on position go to fuel rail, there is a valve on fule rail called sharader valve. Get a small screw driver and press valve in to check if car has fule pressure. if pressure is present then it is incorrect timing or possible bad cam sensor.

SOURCE: my 1999 masda 626 won't

check relays/fuses first then the pump if you know how to test it
the pump is easy to test locate any fuel line unplug it tell a friend to make a quick one key turn if squirts fuel then pump is fine
but check the pump relay first to make sure and to begin with simplest
it seems you can tell it is the pump but you don`t know where to start

I ran out of gas. Put in gas. Now it's turning over but not starting. Should I change the plugs.

If your fuel pump is in the gas tank the fuel pump is cooled and lubricated by the gas. If you run out of gas and keep trying to start it many times you can damage the fuel pump. If you have a older car you can try putting a little gas in the carburetor and see if it cranks, if it cranks with gas in carburetor you know it is a lack of fuel problem. You might try spraying starting fluid in air filter but to much can damage your engine. Some links below may provide some help.

Your vehicle fuel pump can run and pump gas but depending on your vehicle you may not have enough fuel pressure to run. I would check your fuel pump fuse and relay and fuel inertia switch/fuel pump kill switch if you have one. I do not know why running out of gas would cause them to fail but it is something to check.

Cranks but won;t start, is it the fuel pump?

number one thing to do , are you getting spark , pull a plug wire at the plug side and put the screw driver in the hole in the wire off and hold it to ground have someone crank it over a few seconds and see if you have spark , if you are getting spark then you are not getting fuel you have to ck you fuel pressure should be around 40 lbs , but some cars vary but it is pretty high you can ck online for the right pressure , also ck your air filter believe it or not I seen some cars not start because of a dirty air filter . let me know how you make out

I was driving my Toyota 4runner and noticed steam coming out from under hood. I shut engine off. After engine cooled off, it won't start so I can put water in it?

Well, you over heated it if you saw steam coming out. If you warped the head then you may be sucking air or throwing water into the pistons causing a no start. 1st is to make sure you are NOT putting water into the bottle or radiator. You need to be using coolant (Anti-freeze) 2nd, check to make sure you're getting gas 3rd make sure you're getting spark. If all is good then I would remove the spark plugs, and let them dry off because they're probably loaded with gas. Cut the fuel pump from pumping gas into the cylinders by either pressing 1/2 way down or all the way down on the gas pedal. Crank engine over 5 or 6 times to blow the gas out of the cylinders. Replace the dried off plugs or put new ones in. Turn key to on position count to 5 and start car. if that doesn't work try a 1 second squirt of starting fluid into the breather. If it starts great, if not then you probably need to look at the cam or crank sensor.

Fuel pump

Testing of the fuel and ignition systems is in order. Intermittent problems need testing when the problem is present, otherwise it won't help find the problem.
I would start by checking for spark on a spark plug wire (or two or three plug wires, in case it may be a bad coil), during those times when it won't start. You need to see a blue, snapping spark to verify ignition system is working.
To check the fuel system, have the fuel pressure checked, and the injector circuit checked. Good that you hear the pump, but you don't know if fuel pressure is correct, or if fuel is getting into the cylinders. One short test is to spray starting fluid or carb cleaner into the intake while engine is cranking. If engine fires up for a few seconds, you know it is a gas related problem.
If ignition system is the intermittent problem, could be failing coil or coils, ignition module, crank position sensor, even the computer, or a wiring problem like a bad connection. Testing of each component will be required, or you could start throwing new parts at it, like many people do, until you find the bad part. Find a reputable mechanic-there still are a few, lol.

Just because it get fuel, but does the fuel injector pulse? Add fuel in the throttle body if it wants to start your problem and solution will resie in bringing the fuel injector to working level

2003 kia Sedona won't. start

If this is a sudden occurrence and nothing suspicious happened prior, you most likely lost either gas or spark to the engine. You need to check for both.

Do you hear the fuel pump in the gas tank buzz on for a couple of seconds when you turn the ignition key to ON? Unless the fuel pump turns on and puts gas under high pressure at the fuel injectors, the engine cylinders won't get gas to start. Correct fuel pressure is crucial to know if you have a fuel pump (or fuel filter) problem. If the pressure is correct, it is probably not a fuel problem but a spark problem, although there are less common instances where a fuel injector circuit may malfunction.

The ignition system not producing spark at the spark plugs is the other common problem of no starts. Buy a cheap spark tester at a parts store, plug it into one of your spark plug wires, then crank the engine over and watch for a strong blue spark. You might need a helper to do this. If you see a consistent spark, the ignition system is probably good, although you should probably check more than just one plug wire-sometimes one bad ignition coil in a coil pack will cause no starting. Good luck.

Car wants to start but acts like it isn't getting fuel.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to check the fuel pressure to see if it is getting gas. You can check it from the fuel line. You can try hitting the gas tank a few times and then try starting it. If it is the fuel pump, this may cause it to activate and work. You can check to see if there is fuel coming to the fuel filter or going through the filter. Make sure the filter isn't clogged up. You can always use starter fluid or a little gas in the intake. If it starts for a second or two, you probably have a fuel issue. If it only cranks, you may have an issue with the ignition system, such as a cam sensor, bad plugs or wires, distributor, crank sensor. If your computer has picked up on anything, your check engine light will be on. You can get specific codes from your computer that explain what part is not working. You have to have an OBDII scanner though. You need fuel, air, and fire to start a vehicle. Try hitting the gas tank first to see if it will start. When you first turn the key, you should hear a humming sound for a second or two. If you do, then the pump is probably working. If not, the pump is probably not working. You need to test for fuel and spark. Hit the tank and let me knoe if it starts.
