Question about 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora

1 Answer

OK I went to install a wiring harness and a trailer hitch on my wifes car. Went and got the correct Harness because of course the aurora did not have one. Installed it pretty easy per the directions....now I do not have a drivers side tail light or parking/running light but the other side is fine, so I took the harness back off and still nothing. This light worked fine the day before. I checked all of the fuses and also checks the lines.....the one that I identified to be the tail light and the one identified to be the side marker light neither have juice going to them.....thye seem to lead somewhere under the rear seat but I am not sure where to start to find the problem. especially since it was fine prior to putting on the harness.

The wife fixed it, she swore it was the fuse also but I checked all the fuses with my fuse tester, sure enough, she pulled the fuse up by the steering column and it was blown, put a new one in and all is good. Thanks!

I want to install a trailer hitch and wiring harness. Is there already holes in the frame to install the hitch aand is there already wiring that can be tapped into for the wiring harness?

Yes, this is actually a quite simple installation. There are two different versions of this vehicle. With and without stow and go. They both require different hitches and mounting schemes. Both vehicles will have the same wiring however. Part number 55537 will give you the correct wiring. If your vehicle has stow n' go you will need hitch number 13389 and if it does not you will need 13362. I hope this helps!

How do i connect a tow hitch socket to make my trailer lights work

If you want to install a plug for the trailer lights it is better to go to a parts store and get a wiring harness that plugs into your cars wiring harness near the rear lights. That way you don't have to spend time finding the right wires to cut and tie into. These harnesses cost more than a splice in one, but can be installed in just minutes.

Were do you hook up the two wires under the hood for trailer brakes on a 2000 silverado

Sometime around 2000, GM started putting trailering pre-wire harnesses in the vehicle. Your truck may have this harness built in and would greatly simplify brake controller installation. Look under the glovebox and see if there is a wire harness tied off. There will be four wires in this harness, which should be run over to the steering column to use it. Most trailer brake controllers are compatible with this harness.
The four wires in the harness are: Red, 12vdc; black, ground; blue or purple, brake pedal; and brown or white, trailer brake wire to seven pin, four pin, or five pin connector at trailer hitch, if your truck came from the factory with a trailer hitch.
If you are adding the hitch and do not have the four wire harness, the under hood wires from your brake controller are Red, connect to one of the studs under the distribution box cover (the distribution box is on the driver's side against the firewall. Underneath the cover are two large threaded studs which are hot from the battery all the time); and the other wire from your brake controller would have to be run the length of the truck along the frame, tied off in several places, to the trailer hitch connector on the bumper. Follow the directions that came with trailer hitch wiring connector to connect this wire to the proper pin in the connector.
If this has helped you, great, and please remember to vote/comment.
Good luck!

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.2 ltr. It has a 6-way round set up. My trailer has a 7-way flat wiring harness. I need to know if i have to rewire my intire truck or if there is an adapter that i can splice...

I had an odd type of fixture on my trailer too. I went to Tractor Supply and bought an adapter. I would imagine the brand of trailer you have should make adapter "PIGS" for what they sell. An RV parts outlet should carry something for you too.

Another place which may be able to help you is "U-Haul". They used to install trailer hitches and put permanent wiring into vehicles for an additional fee when renting their stuff.

Trailer hitch...no running lights (2004)

You'll have to follow the BROWN wire from the factory connector(with the running lights on of course) to the trailer connector and make sure you are getting power all the way to the two lamp fixtures. If so you've probably got two burned out 1157 bulbs or an inline fuse in the factory harness/ trailer harness.Good Luck, Dana

Trailer wiring for 2005 Ford Escape without factory tow package

I had the sam problem with my '02 escape when I installed the hitch. I changed the turn signal relay under the dashboard on the drivers side of the dash with one from an escape that had a tow package(one was blue and the other was yellow...). worked fine for me after that. Don't know if it changed later...
