Heater core was replaced in my 1989 Oldsmobile and now the radio doesn't work right

You did not say what the exact problem was with the radio, but keep in mind the radio was probably removed to change out the heater core. If it is powering up but will not pick up any signal the antenna wire is probably not connected on the back of the radio. It just plugs in. Same problem could be if it does not come on. A plug in.

Your closing in. There is a motor that will open the heater core venting to allow it to blow into the car. Get a heater core install picture from your auto parts dealer or car dealer for specs of where and how it is driven.

Heater core replacement


Hello Fred.
Not a real easy job to do but if you want to tackle it, good for you.
Here is the manual instruction.
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Drain cooling system.
  3. Remove right sound insulator.
  4. Remove center and lower instrument panel trim plates.
  5. On models with automatic climate control, remove speaker grille and speaker for access to programmer attaching bolt.
  6. Disconnect wiring and hoses from programmer.
  7. Remove programmer linkage cover and disconnect linkage.
  8. Remove programmer attaching bolt and the programmer.
  9. On all models, remove heater core cover, then the splash cover for access to heater hoses.
  10. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
  11. Remove heater core cover, then the heater core.
  12. Reverse procedure to install.

There you are, I hope your repair goes well.

How do you replace the heater core of a 1996 cierra wagon 6 cyl


  1. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly.
  2. Drain coolant.
  3. Rotate engine forward on 3100 only.
  4. Both heater hoses at heater core.
  5. Right and left instrument panel sound insulator.
  6. Rear compartment heat duct adapter bolt/screws and adapter.
  7. Heater outlet duct bolts and duct.
  8. Heater core cover.
  9. Heater core.

Remove and replace heater core . It has air conditioning. It is a SL model.


first off, drain your coolant.

1. under your hood, loosen clamps and remove hoses from your heater core that go into your firewall.
2.
take off your dash board panel on the inside.
3. take off the vent of duct
4. take off screws and clips on the heater core cover and remove that
5. take off the straps that hold the core in place and remove. Watch not to lose too mauch, if any coolant in the core itself.
6. install new core. Please ratey answer so that I know if I was of any help to you. Thanks!
