Question about 2001 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

I do have A 2001 Yukon 5.3 4X4 I just repleased the transmission with a used one. my problem is that the new transmission donsen't shift to all the way to 1st gear, ''the P, R, N, D, 3 AND 2ND'' shifts fine; if I go under the car and I do the shifting manualy on the transmission I can make the transmission to shift on to 1st gear. ''is there anything that I need to adjust?''. it seems to me that the shifting cable can not pull all the way down..... why...... thank you

WELL THE linkages on both transmissions I switch them, and I just don't remember how the cable was router from the cab to the transmission.

I guess I just install the cable with out notice the the way it was........

the other thing is that the transmission dosen't shift properly

  • gruporeyesde Jul 11, 2009

    TRANSMISSIONS ARE IDENTICAL

  • gruporeyesde Jul 11, 2009

    TRANSMISSION IS 4 spd. A.T., 4L60E, M30. 16 bolt oil pan.

  • gruporeyesde Jul 11, 2009

I DON'T SEE ANY ADJUSTING POINT........

  • gruporeyesde Jul 11, 2009

DO YOU THINK THIS HAS TO DO WITH TRANMISSION NOT SHIFTING THE PROPERLY?

  • gruporeyesde Jul 11, 2009

IT TAKES A LOT TO SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2DN, IF YOU PRESS HARD ON THE GAS PEDAL, THEN IT WILL SHIFT...........

  • gruporeyesde Jul 12, 2009

NO, IT IS JUST THE SHIFTER CABLE, NOTHIG ELSE

  • gruporeyesde Jul 12, 2009

    THANK YOU.........

Did you take a close look at linkages on both transmissions for any difference in the lever or wherever cable attaches, for example, different shape or angle, that would make it travel further, or less? Measure from bellhousing, where it meets engine on both transmissions to linkage, for any variance in length that would explain it. Did cable adjustment move , or is cable routed same as before?

Take a close look at transmission pan shape & size & see if they are exact same. If different, transmission is different model.

Does cable only fit on transmission with no adjustment , or does it have adjustment available.

How about adjustment at bracket area on engine where cable attached?

If out of adjustment it could cause shifting problems. By not shifting properly, please explain what it's doing.

Is there another cable attached to throttle valve on transmission, that may be holding shifter back.? Acts similar to old kick down if your familiar with those days.? If there is, detach it & see how shifter works then.

Transmission slipping on my 2001 Yukon XL Is it time to change the fluid/filter or do I need a new Transmission?

Dunno! How many miles do you have on it? Have you change the fluid before? At what interval.

Why wont my 2001 gmc yukon shift back into park

I had this problem on a Ford! There is a flexible cable most likely from your transmission lever to your transmission. These wear out, and develop kinks, you will most likely have to replace it. However if you are a dyi guy inspect it thoroughly, you may fix it with Gorrilla Tape?

Tranmission and instrument cluster

The speed sensor on your trans sends a signal to the electronics telling it when to shift, this will be where you fault is.

My 2001 GMC Yukon 5.3l 4WD SUV is having (2) transmission problems. 1.) When cold, it shifts HARD from 1st into 2nd but after the 1st time while the engine is warm, it shifts smoothly. It started doing...

Does the trany fluid smell burnt? Might want to have the trany flushed - torque converter too - and replace the filter in the trans. FYI you may know this but it is not recomended that overdrive be enabled when pulling a trailer - especially a heavily loaded one. Does your town have lots of hills - this is an added stain on the trany.

When my 2001 GMC Yukon tries to shift into 3rd gear or overdrive - it is like it goes into nutral. It never shifts to 3rd. 1st and 2nd gears does just fine.

this sounds like the pressure valve is going bad on third gear. cheap fix try Lucus transmission additive to increase the pressure.
To do it right go to a good transmission shop an have it serviced and flushed.

Hoses about every 6 years, Belts every 30k And if its that clean, Drive it and make sure it shifts out ok warm and hot, Get it up to 50-60 mph with all sounds off and listen for a whine even a slight wine, If none heard id say buy it, The whine i spoke of is rear diff noise by the way.

2001 Yukon XL SLT 4 speed Auto Transmission shift problem!

Sam,

I would start with a transmission fliud and filter service.

I would then have the trasnmission checked out by a transmission shop. The transmission most of the time has the direct drum band is starting to go. The shops can rebuild it no problem, This is a very common failure wiith the trasnmission.

Good Luck

Towing with 2001 GMC Yukon XL

It saves your transmission from costly repairs. The little bit of fuel you think you may save by not using it, will certainly not outweigh that big bill for new transmission. Saves transmission from shifting up & down too much.
