Black smoke is an indication of a rich ( overfueled ) engine. Make sure the oil level is correct as a low level will affect the VTEC operating system and will cause a variation in valve timing. I would suspect the check engine light to be on if over fueled. You may need to have the operating system parameters scanned to determine if a sensor is acting up causing this issue.

Possible speed sensor. I know the speed sensors are a problem with hondas. A new speed sensor is about $200 and can be easily replaced. It bolts to the top of the transmission on the firewall side. Do NOT buy an e-bay one. They are only about $30 but are junk

If it runs good no worries. Your check engine light will turn on if theres a problem in one of your sensor, reving it on hi rpm will normally give you a light..
