Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

To replace the water pump, you will need to remove all the drive belts. Then there are 2 black covers on the front timing cover. One cover is for the chain tensioner, the other is for access to the water pump. I would recommend you replace the tensioner the same time you do the water pump. The reason is, you need to remove that tensioner so the chain has slack. When the chain has slack, you can then unbolt and pull the water pump out. It could get stuck, so there are bolts that you need that you would use to run in to pop the pump free.

Hope this helps , Thanks Jay!

SOURCE: How do you fix the water pump on a 1997 nissan

The water pump is located behind the timing chain cover. There are two black plates on the front cover. The one near the front of the car has the water pump behind it. The other one has the timing chain tensioner behind it. First you must drain the coolant. Then support engine and remove engine mount. Then remove drive belts. Then remove the two black plates. Push the tensioner in and lock it with a paper clip. Then remove the two bolts holding the tensioner and remove tensioner. Then remove the water pump bolts. Rotate engine crankshaft the take tension off of water pump (about 20 degrees). Then install two bolts into water pump threaded flange (M8). Tighten M8 evenly as water pump will come without damaging it. Check for corrosion. Then replace with new one. Make sure you use new "O" rings. Lubricate with engine oil. Put the original three bolts back in the water pump. Then install timing chain tensioner and black covers. Replace belts and engine mounts. Add coolant and pressure test system.

2000 nissan altuma fuel problem

Listen for the fuel pump to kick on when you turn the key on(just to the on position you don't need to be turning it over) sounds like a humming or low buzzing sound. It will kick off when the system is pressurized. If you don't hear this your fuel pump is bad. You can go ahead then and check the fuel filter then the fuel pressure regulator. That should get you up to the injectors. All of these components are not serviceable and if you find one that is bad it should be replaced.

Need to replace water pump on nissan 1997 quest

Not sure why all other parts removed? Locate the water pump by following the lower radiator hose to the motor...the connection is part of the water pump housing...Also look at the replacement water pump to see what few bolts need to be removed to switch the pump. Be sure to use a water pump gasket sealer when applying the new water pump gasket...coat both sides as this also helps to hold in place while re-assembling. Reconnect all hoses and clamps...install the belt before testing...Talk with your local parts store also...the water pump usually comes with a replacement diagrahm too. Hope this helps.

Can i replace the water pump in a 1997 Nissan pickup without messing with (replacing) the timing chain?

D21 Pick up? The water pump is not timing belt driven. It is drive belt drive with a pulley held on with 4 bolts.

So, yes, the water pump can be replaced without touching the timing components. :-)

My 1997 nissan trucks hose was leaking so i replaced it then the water pump was leaking so i replased it now the moter over heats what do you think i should try next?

I would recommend that you flush the radiator, and change the thermostat. You may want to change out your clutch fan. If it spins freely when the engine is off with little to no resistance, then it is faulty. It should spin, but there will be noticeable resistance when doing so,

I need to change the water pump on my nissan Quest 1996. How should i go about doing that?

Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

To replace the water pump, the front engine timing belt would need to be removed. This is a very big job and should be done by someone who is familiar with how timing belt jobs are done.

Thanks Jay!
