Relay should be located under the hood next to the battery. There is a fuse panel with many different relays. Check in your manual under "roadside emergencies" and find the relay for the A/C compressor. very common problem.

The harness runs from one side to the other. It runs across the top. Start with what harness you can see and cut it open. Look for any melted rubber coatings. To check the entire harness, the dash has to come out. You'll need a manual for that.

I have a 1996 Mercury Gran Marquis sometimes wouldn't go into D-gear. forced me to go to 2 Gear. Few days ago when i put it on PARK gear, it goes into reverse. Do i need a new transmission?

Maybe, but not necessarily. Its possible your shift linkage/cable has loosened or stretched. Have a reputable transmission shop check that. (easy for them to do)

A/C compressor not coming on 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis

The first thing to do is check the connector at the AC compressor to see if it has power whwen the system is turned on. Then check the pressure switch as well for power in and out.

Ac on 96 grand marquis continues to blow hot air with new compressor and freon?

The first question is do you know if the ac compressor is running ?
If one ac line is hot and the other is cold you may have a blend door problem under the dash.

When ac is on heat comes out

The system may be under charged. Does the compressor kick on? The blend air door for the hot and cold may be stuck in the heat position. The tempature setting moves a blend air door between the heater core and the A/C evaporator.

Continuous loss of refrigerant in air conditioning system. A/C has been evacuated and tested with dye under pressure but no leaks are found (except my usually excellent mechanic says it might be under the...

Could be the evaporator, rare but possible. Double check the schrader valves on the high and low pressure lines, and the shut off valves on the lines going to and from the condensor, and the condensor itself. (common culprit) Also the front seal on the compressor if leaking will have oily residue all over. No offense but try a different mechanic. Sometimes a new set of eyes works wonders!! Your mechanic won't be offended. If he is, fire him.

Where do you add freon to 1997 mercury gran marquis put on new ac compressor and need to add freon

You should find a fill stem on the black oblong tank or right next to it. This is the low pressure side. You should get a Vacuum pump which can be loaned from Autozone or Oreillys with a refundable deposit. You need to draw out the moisture in the system and create a Vacuum before you refill it.

You should also use an Oil charge for the compressor. There are Freon cans with the oil charge already in them. However, there are different weights of oil used in the compressor. Let the Auto parts people get you the right type for your car. There are different weights, just like engine oil has different weights.

You will need to jump the connector at the low pressure switch to get the system to take freon. Once you have enough to close the low pressure switch you can remove the jumper wire and fill at will.
