You need to bleed the brake system. To bleed the hydraulic brakes; you fill the reservoir, with brake fluid then,go to the farthest.cylinder, find the bleed plug(near the wheel cylinder, looks like a grease fitting) slip a hose tightly over the fitting, submerge the other end in a container of brake fluid, then loosen the fitting; (with a helper., slowly pressing the brake peddle down);fluid will come out to the container,if air bubbles, close the fitting at the end of flow then let up on brake peddle,do this till all air bubbles are gone, then go to next wheel cylinder repeat till all cylinder are bled(be sure all bleed fittings are re-tightened,when done. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Groan......master cylinder not brakes and rotors and what not. hopefully you kept all of you old stuff because there was probably nothing wrong with it. also, make sure that you do a realy good job bleading you break = air will cause the pedal to go down to the floor. also if you change the master cylinder, that you try and bleed most of the air out before you install it into your vehicle

I just replaced the front brake calipers on my 2002 olds alero and am attempting to bleed the brakes per a Chilton manual. I have gone around several times but the brake pedal is still spongey even though...

I think you probably did a great job on bleeding the brakes . How about checking the condition of the pads and rotor. Hopefully you replaced them and forgot to mention it in your complaint. Especially if they were full of brake fluid from the bad calipers. Sometimes were so focused on getting to the new procedure we have never done and forget the obvious like correct installiation of the pads and new caliper brake hoses. Sit down have a snack and think over what you missed . I don't think it was in the bleeding.

Install brake pads on the rear of a 2002 Ford Thunderbird

remove wheel
remove pads, they just clips on to the caliper and will pop right off with a screwdriver.
There are 2 different kinds of calipers that ford uses. on oine you will be able to take a c-clamp and force the piston back into the caliper. ON the other type you have to have a $10 tool from oriellys. This tool will hook to the backside of the caliper and turn the piston back in. ONce the piston is backed off, clip on new pads, and slide over rotor. Should be 1 pad on each side of the rotor.

there is no need to bleed the brakes unless you loosen lines which you shouldnt have to do.

What tools do i need too replace front brake pads on 99 olds alero

TOOLS YOU NEED TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKES YOU NEED A FLOOR JACK AND JACK STANDS.YOU NEED C - CLAMP TO COMPRESS CALIPER PISTON IN ITS BORE. SO THE BRAKE SHOES IN CALIPER WILL FIT OVER THE DISC OR ROTOR.YOU NEED A SIPHON OR LARGE SYRINGE TO REMOVE A LITTLE BRAKE FLUID FROM MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR SO WHEN YOU COMPRESS CALIPER PISTON BRAKE FLUID WONT SPILL OVER MAKE A MESS POSSIBLE DAMAGE CAR PAINT.SHOULD AVOID GET IT ON YOUR HANDS ALSO.YOU NEED A 3/8 RATCHET AND SOCKET SET.ITS ALSO GOOD TO HAVE A HAYNES OR CHILTON REPAIR MANUAL.IT WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH THE PROCESS.BESURE WHEN YOU FINISH PUTTING ON BRAKE PADS.PUMP UP BRAKES WITH BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL THEY ARE FIRM.MAKE SURE YOU PUT BACK ON MASTER CYLINDER COVER BEFORE PUMPING UP BRAKES.AFTER PUMPING UP BRAKES TO SEAT BRAKE PADS AGAINST ROTOR CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL.

Take off the wheel, then use a c-clamp and put it on the back side of the calipers and on the outside brake pad. That will make it easier to take off. Then there will be two bolts with the heads on the inside that go through the caliper that need to be taken off. After that the rotor can simply be beaten off with a rubber mallet, no nut removal neccesary. Then it all goes back on in reverse. Just make sure you pump the brakes up before you take it for a drive so that the piston in the caliper can return back to it's normal state.

2002 camry breaks

take off brake caliper, take off your brake pads. check the sliders. sliders are on the side of the bracket. see if they are moving freely in and out. im pretty sure they are seized. that's why your pedal is soft and sinks down really fast when applied.
