It does sound like your clutch has not gone. The easy way to check, is put he clutch the into gear with the engine off and try to start it. if the car tries to pull away it is the trust bearing. To test for this, stop the car, put it into nuetral, start the car, listen for a hissing sound. If when you press the clutch the sound goes, it's the bearing. Whatever, it's a box out job. Bearings are cheap, if the plate looks worn, change it. There is no way a car can loose syncromesh on all 4 gears at the same time. Don't panic. It's a cheap repair. Leat me know how you got on.

I have the same car, the only solution to this problem is to tighten the clutch cable nut just as necessary until you feel that you are able to shift smoothly without forcing it, make sure you start the car to test for that.

You might have to remove the air intake in order to access the clutch cable.

If you tighten the nut too much, your clutch will feel light and you will have clutch slips. So basically keep trying until you're there. You can loosen or tighten the nut while the car is running, I'd recommend.

Sounds like the friction surface of the clutch disc is slipping. You would have to install a new clutch (clutch disc, pressure plate, and clutch release bearing), and have the flywheel surface cut and polished back to perfect smooth by a shop.
Manual transmission gears don't slip like automatics. And lack of fluid in the transaxle or the hydraulic clutch system won't cause this either.

I have a 1998 accord 4cyl coupe manual trans. The

A clutch issue youtend to have more of an engagement problem with 1st and reverse gear for a small time period before you notice other gears.You want to check the clutch hydrolic system for any leaks(clutch slave at transmission,clutch master,which you look for leakage on interior above clutch pedal)and at fluid resevoir.you also want to double check condition of trans fluid. strongly recommend using only HONDA BRAND MANUAL TRANS. FLUID when doing maintinance,fluid should be replaced every 30k on this car.The Honda brand fluid is like night and day on these cars,it WILL make a difference in shifting!!TRust Me on this point! Sorry now back to your main clutch issue,when driveing and you go to shift gears and normally notice grinding,with clutch pedal in shft out of gear and before engageing it into next gear do a double pump of clutch pedal then see if when continuing to next gear if it engagees smoother.if so you know you have without a dout a clutch pressure plate/disc problem. I can tell you that in twenty years the only manual transmissions themselves that ever had problems were due to outside influences(gear oil in transmission,improper driveing,etc.)let me know what you find and we can go from there..JOEL

Transmission will not shift to next gear. 2001 jeep grand cherokee. manual transmission

If this is a manual transmission and your can't get it to go into the next gear, your clutch is probably worn out and needs to be replaced. When the clutch pedal is pressed a space in the gear box allotted for the shift stick to get in. If that space is not being created, the clutch is not working properly. I say get your clutch check out.

Manual transmission wont go into gear unless engine is off. Starts fine, air runs. Feels like it is locked out of gear. Don't know if it is clutch or transmission

if you have to shut off the car to get it in gear then you either need to adjust the clutch or repair the slave cylinder.check your fluid level for the clutch,owners manual will tell you how.

Error codes

Her is the definition and a list of possiable causes.

Code P1740-Torque converter clutch did not lock up when the PCM sent the command. Enabling conditions: No engine or transmissions codes are present, vehicle speed was under 70 MPH, TPS was under 33% open. When the PCM commanded the torque converter to lock, no change was detected in engine speed. Blocking action: This code can block the following monitors: none.
Testing: Check torque converter solenoid for proper operation.
P1740 TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE (GAS)
Theory of Operation
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid is used to engage the TCC which improves fuel economy.
When Monitored
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (OD) will be tested each time the PCM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and OD.
Set Condition
The DTC will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or OD. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.
Possible Causes
* ENGINE DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE TOO COLD
* OIL PAN CONTAINS EXCESSIVE DEBRIS
* 3-4 SHIFT SOLENOID
* SHAFT OR SEAL DAMAGE
* TCC SOLENOID
* TORQUE CONVERTER
