Truck was running fine coming back from vacation

Truck (4.6) was running fine coming back from vacation pulling our trailer until a major hill with significant time in #2 gear. Once at the summit check engine light flashed for quite awhile and then stayed on. I stopped and opened the hood in case it was a heat issue however none of the gauges indicated any increase in heat. I had all of the fluids and filters changed before we left on our trip. Under load engine is strong but once in top gear (cruising)runs rough. Also at idle is rough but if you rev the engine there is no misfiring.Turning off the engine has no effect on the light straying on.

I would suggest going to Autozone and have them check for code or codes that might have occured, they will do it for free and diagnose what the problem might be. But anytime the check engine light comes on it has to do with your emission, possibly an oxygen sensor may have went bad, have them pull the codes and see what the prob is.

Sounds like it tuliped the a valve. You should find the cyl. that is missing and check compression. With the heat built up from pulling the hill they try to pull the valve through the head, this will also light up the check engine light. Hope this helps Good luck

1999 ford f350 surging noise when accelerating

pretty complex problem there man! sounds like it could possibly be something with the transmission. at the part when you say if youre pulling at 55 and it wont speed up, does the engine rev up but it doesnt do anything or no change in engine speed? if the engine sped up, it sounds like a transmission problem, if it didnt make a change in the engine, then it could be as you said a fuel problem. also as a last thought, it could also be a sensor malfunctioning. you might want to take it to a ford dealer and get it diagnosed

2003 f350 diesel a/c clutch stops when pulling heavy trailer

My first thought is the computer is doing it on purpose to save horsepower. Gas engines do this when the driver goes to wide open throttle. But it should not take more than a minute or two after you reach the top of the hill to resume.
I would check with Ford to see if the computer is programmed to do this. If it is normal it should come back as soon as you let off the gas pedal or the need for extra power is gone.
It may be tough to troubleshoot if you can't make it happen in a garage.

96 GMC 1500 5.7 this problem has been reoccurring. Missfire on the 4 cylinder. It comes and goes. The check engine light would come on then off when I dropped the trailer or when pulling a hill. Loss of...

it indicates injector problems
leaking injector seal /s dirty injectors
you can try moving no 4 injector to another cylinder and if the misfire moves as well , replace that injector
it it doesn't move the misfire , it is coils or ECM problems

Trailer wiring problem. Tow vehicle is a 2008 Grand Caravan with 4 wire plug. Double checked, plug function works fine. When trailer is plugged to tow vehicle with tow vehicle lights OFF the trailer...

Most likely the brown wire from the trailer connector is connected to a constant battery voltage source, and it should be connected to the vehicle running light circuit, however someone might have wired the trailer connector up that way on purpose so that the trailer does not draw power from the vehicle running lights and possibly damage the vehicle running light circuit. (Dodge/Chrysler vehicles do have delicate lighting systems) Here are some images to help assist you, and the 4 way connector is the same as the 5 way connector just without the blue wire for the trailer brakes.

1999 4runner light not working on trailer

Check the bulbs in the trailer. If you know someone with a trailer that you could hook up to try that too. A large majority of trailer lighting systems use a simple circuit pattern. Like Christmas lights. . . one goes out they all go out. etc. Some boat trailer lights will burn out if they are hooked up when it's backed into the water. The pain of trailer stuff is figuring out if its really the trailer or not. When the cover is off the lights make sure you take a good look at the guts of the light. The brass pathways will actually arc and melt. Ruining the light. If its not the trailer start checking the vehicle connections. Remember not to overthink things and start with simple stuff first. Oh and recruit a helper to push the brakes and run back and forth it will speed things up greatly.

Trailer lights stop working when tow vehicle lights are turned on

Pull all of the bulbs and try it using a tester to each light. I have seen a bulb that would contact both posts and kill the lights. Hope this helps. Mike
