Possibly faulty cooling fan relay... the fan has an override when the A/C comes on. (Wouldn't be a faulty temperature sensor, or the fan would work when overheating.)

if engine at long stand still, the engine temperature will rise about 190 degrees the cooling fan suppose to automaticaly turn on when coolant temperature sensor get hot it cause its resistance decrease causing pcm to send power to coolant fan relays and cooling fans, when you turn on AC the cooling fans suppose to turn on to cool down AC CONDENSOR, IF NOT AC WONT WORK COOLING FAN COOLS DOWN REFRIGERANT SO IT CAN RECYCLE THROUGH THE SYSTEM AGAIN.your cooling is suppose to turn on when engine at a sit still if vechicle not moving as coolant temperature rises at a set point the cooling fans will turn on cool down engine.cooling fans dont turn on when you first cold stsrt vechicle unless you have AC SWITCH ON.if cooling fans dont turn on when vechicle at a long stand still or moving along slow traffic.if coolant temperature sensor been replaced and fuses and relays okay have dealership check see if pcm driver circuit working faulty pcm will cause cooling fans not to turn on.
Yes when you are sitting in traffic or just sitting the fans come on to cool the engine so if they are not working it will over heat. When you are on the highway the car should not over heat though becouse the wind is cooling the engine at this time.
disconnect the plug at the fan,, supply the wires that go to the fan with 12 volts direct,, if the fan starts,, the fan is good, if not replace it,, now if its good,, follow the system back,, go to the fan replay, check it, ( sometimes you will have 2 or 3 of the same relays in the under hood fuse box, just switch them out so that the fan has a good one, ( known to work) if this fixes the problem, replace the relay
i would check and make sure the cooling fan is operating,if not it will overheat sitting still.a thermostat will cause overheating whether or not it sits still or driving(more so when driving).the same if it has a bad water pump although it may circulate just enough coolant when driving to not overheat with air flow also adding a cooling effect.if you don`t have a leak then i would say the water pump is okay as they usually will leak before causing a overheat problem.make sure the cooling fan is working and the rad does not have anything stopping the air flow over the rad and is not stopping coolant flow in the rad.
MAKE SURE ENOUGH COOLANT IN COOLING SYSTEM. ALSO MAKE SURE COOLING FANS ARE WORKING.IF CAR SITTING AND IDLING IN A LONG TRAFFIC JAM ON FREEWAY OR ELSE WHERE.IF COOLANT FANS DONT COME ON CAR WILL OVERHEAT BOIL OVER.HAVE CAR SCAN FOR A FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULT.AND CHECK THE COOLING FANS FUSE AND RELAYS.MAKE SURE COOLING FANS ARE WORKING.ALSO PUT COOLANT BACK IN TO MAKE UP WHAT BOILED OUT.
The radiator cooling fan relay has most likely failed. It is underneath the air cleaner on the frame rail just behind the radiator. NO cooling fan = overheating. This is the first thing i would look at. Best way to tell is when the van gets hot see if the cooling fan is on. You will hear it running if it is coming on. It will set a code for the cooling fan relay also.
if the cooling fans dont come on, it might need the fan relay replaced.
the relay is located on the frame rail right below the battery tray. the easiest way to accesss it is from underneath the car.
