I would definitely look into changing that oil pump if I was you. It sounds like it is on its way out, not dead yet, and when you down shift you are losing some of the oil pressure you get naturally from being in the higher gear. Replacing your oil pump will solve this problem for you and will keep you from damaging the vehicle by not having the correct oil pressure in your engine. have the trans checked out, sounds like it might be in 2 gears when your shifting into 2nd, causing it to bind up, is there any noise when this problem occurs? a bad bearing or worn syncro rings could be the cause

What are the symptoms of a speed sensor going bad on a 1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6 cyl.

Since alot of things rely on data from the speed sensor you will "usually" get an ABS alarm, little or no shifting,no indication of speed on the speedometer, and the check engine light. without the abs light and with a speed indicated I would lean toward a transmission problem

there are pressure sensors inside your transmission which tell it when to shift and whether to shift up or down. i would bet it is has something to do with those. if you take it to a shop, its probably 150-200 to fix, but better than having to rebuild the transmission, which could be around 800. the shop can plug a reader in and drive it around the block and tell you if the sensors are out.

Trouble shifting gears. Gears grinding while shifting from 1st to 2nd. Also cannot down shift from 2nd to 1st unless going less than 10 mph

YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR TRANS OUT AND HAVE IT REBUILT, THE SYNCHROS ARE WORN OUT!!
THAT IS WHY YOU HAVE TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS!!

Manual transmission light flickers off and on-car won't go over40

Is the car a manual or automatic, 4 or 6 cyl? If it is a manual trans the hard shift could be due to worn shift forks which were rather common in these cars, had them go out in my 90 GT a few years ago. Could also be low on lube or the wrong lube. To check the lube on a manual trans car remove the speedometer drive which is on the top of the trans. The fluid should be at the bottom of the gear on the drive. The proper fluid is ATF not heavy gear oil that ends up getting put in. Hope this helps
