Question about 1990 Dodge Dakota
I have a 1990 dodge dakota 6 cyl. 3.9 liter that the oil light comes on when I am going down from second to first, and it wants to stall. I'm planning to change the oil pump. Is this the best course of action?
I would definitely look into changing that oil pump if I was you. It sounds like it is on its way out, not dead yet, and when you down shift you are losing some of the oil pressure you get naturally from being in the higher gear. Replacing your oil pump will solve this problem for you and will keep you from damaging the vehicle by not having the correct oil pressure in your engine. Let me know if you have any further questions and thank you so much for using FixYa!
