Sounds like the solenoid is fused or melted together or the ignition switch.

SOURCE: 2005 chevy silverado won;t start.

i had the same problem, and it turned out the coil pack was moulding inside wich stopped the spark all together, i ended up changing my coil pack and putting on new wires because the ends connected to the coil were very corroded and that cures the not running part just fine

What causes a 1999 chevy silverado to crank for about three seconds then cuts off

When you say cuts off, what do you mean? If the engine stops turning and the starter is still spinning, you have lost teeth on your flywheel. IT might be that the starter is bad or the battery is low too.

It turns over approx 3 to 4 times, then stops (lights go off, engine stops turning over), within 2 seconds and with the key still in the start position the lights come back on and the engine starts...

The starter has a thermal safety switch on it which is suppose to stop the starter from cranking when the starter is overheated to prevent damage to the starter. This switch is not working properly therefor stopping the starter from working. You have to replace the starter to correc this problem.

2000 chevy silverado just rebuit transmission, new starter, and checked all fuses. it cranks but will not fire (start) more I crank the more I smell gas. What could it be? why it will not start?

try checking the crank sensor. if a crank sensor goes bad or is damaged it will not allow the plugs to fire but you should still have fuel pressure. also check all connections.

My 2000 chevy silverado 1500 wont crank on a cold start

Make sure the battery is fully charged. If it starts by jump starting it. Your battery needs to be replaced. If it turns really slow, the starter needs replacement.
