The wire ends have either a large eyelet or small eyelet. the small ones connect to the small terminal on the starter solenoid away form the motor and the large one to the larger terminal.

SOURCE: how do you replace the starter in 1998 chevy malibu

The starter is very simple to replace, 1st always disconnect the battery, the wires at the starter are hot with 12 volts always present, remove the 2 attaching bolts for the starter to the engine block, then remove the wiring, one heavy cable and a bunch of smaller wires, one of those goes to the starter solenoid, mark it, the others are what are called fuse links and provide power to the rest of the car, clean up everything and then re-install in reverse order.

SOURCE: how to replace valve cover gasket 1998 chevy malibu

The first step is to remove all the parts that are in the way of you being able to remove the valve covers. (Ex.: air intake, loose wires etc.) Then you will need to remove your valve covers (using basic tools) and be very careful to not let anything get on your lifters, which your valve covers protect. Once you have the valve covers off compare the new gaskets to make sure they are the right size. Then remove the old gasket and replace with the new one using a high temp gasket sealant (available at any auto parts store) to attach the gasket to the valve covers. Then tighten down snug and check for leaks after replaced.

SOURCE: I have three wires that run form the battery down

Your positive the red wire goes on the big bolt of your starter - You should have two smaller wires - One is from the distributor and the other is from the igniton. Hook these two wires up the same way you took it off. If you are not sure of how the wire came off and should go back buy a Chilton - It is not like re-wiring a light switch and it won't turn on if it isn't connected correctly - This could mess up your car if it isn't wired correctly!

SOURCE: Wiring Diagram 1998 Chevy S-10 starter replacement

The starter has one large cable from the battery positive, and a wire that goes to the solenoid (Part of the starter) that becomes hot when the key ignition is turned to start. This also passes through the neutral safety switch. (So it wont start in gear) Not sure if this is what you need, a little vague.

Malibu keeps stalling after i start it up.

Check to see if it still has spark after it stalls...if it does spray starter fluid into the air intake and see if it will keep running as long as you give it starter fluid. If it does...you have a fuel problem, pump, filter, regulator.

How do I change a 98 chevy malibu starter?

Locate the starter, it goes into the bellhousing of the transmission, that is where the engine and tranny meet. Easiest way is follow the wires coming from the positive battery post. It will be a big one. There are usually only two bolts holding it on. But first remove the wires going into it. Be careful with the main one coming from the battery, it is not fused and if grounded long enough will blow your battery up.

next to the starter is an inline fuse on one of the small wires going to the starter. check this wire thoroughly; sometimes they burn out and the wire hang out of sight. if this wire is not connected correctly then it will never charge the battery.
