Seems to be an electrical problem with my ignition switch. Is this possible? The car seems to be draining the battery without any lights or anything left on?

1987 toyota pickup lost all electrical except headlights

What works? Just headlights? Does anything electrical work that does not need the ignition switch to be in the on position? Possibly four way flashers, brake lights, horn, interior light, dash lights in instrument panel as well as headlights should all work without the key in the ignition and in the acc or on position. If this is what you have, then I would say you need to replace the ignition switch.
Hope this helps.

1989 buick park avenue battery wont stay charged

A possibility is an ignition fuse has blown when the radio was removed. Does the battery light light up when the ignition is turned on. The alternator needs that light to energise and charge, (without it you just run the battery flat), failing that charge the battery, connect an amp meter in series, with every thing switched off, should have a reading of about 0.5 amps (Time clock). If above 2amp that is what is draining the battery. Watch meter and pull fuses one at a time, when the reading drops, that is the circuit/equipment that's causing the trouble.

Battery good, no electricity to car. Is there a fuse that shuts off all electricity to car?

No idea without head under the bonnet but somewhere their is a power take off cable for the ignition system and i dont know where it wouild be on this vehicle but firstly i would look at the battery terminal then follow it back to starter motor and between these two points either the battery end or the starter end their will be a power take off cable which i would suspect needs cleaning .Just have to follow your nose and look iam afraid as iam not as dealer fitter who only works on one brand of vehicle. As for the battery going flat then i would need to examine and check out battery with a drop tester and a induction type amp meter on the earth cable when the starter is engaged as it could ba either one of these problems also of course the earth cable from the engine to the chassis,as for warming the battery ? well then my first suspect is a old battery with no reserve amp hour capacity.but again as stated i would need my head under the bonnet to say for definate

Can worn out ignition switch cause the battery to drain down when car is off and setting for 2 or 3 days?

Yes the faulty ignition switch can definitely drain the battery.Because actually the car is not got completely off.You inserted the key in the ignition switch and turned it to off.But because the ignition switch is faulty the car did not turned off.It remained ON.The other possibility is that the ignition switch is got internally short and causing this problem. There are many other possibilities too for this battery getting drained when car is off.But as per your question which you asked, yes. If the ignition switch is faulty then car battery gets drained even when the car is off. ---------- Get the ignition switch checked by meter and confirm the fault. --------- Thanks.Helpmech.

Headlights have gone on without prompting

Any thing is possible. But I would start with a defective switch. Relay does what switch tells it to do.
Regarding Engine Control Relay usually hot at all times looks like you did a reverse battery drain test.
So far either headlight switch or relay and ECU relay.
This takes most techn's one hour to do .
After you finish testing the light switch and relay do the following test to make sure nothing else is draining your battery.
Remove the negative battery cable from its post and connect an ammeter red probe
to the negative battery post and the black probe to the negative battery cable.
Now start pulling fuses until the voltage on the meter returns to normal.
(anything above a half of a volt is too high) The fuse you pulled to get this
result is the affected circuit. Now you have to probe it from its B+ source to
the load
to find the short. Check all connectors for rust and the line for opens or
shorting to ground. Repair accordingly.

Car won't start, battery seems drained.

hi
it sound like you ether have the light switch malfunctioning
or the head lamp relay is stack on ( pretty common ) or the battery has come to the end of it life , or poor connection ( corroded ) battery leads or and poor connection to earth

LED light will not go off...i had to replace battery finally..is this the problem?

I had the same problem it turned out to be my ignition switch of all things... sometimes it would turn on and sometimes not... I called AAA on 4 occasions my regular mechanic could not find anything on the diagnostic test and recommend I go the inexpensive route and replace the battery. It was not the battery I ended up taking it to the dealership the experts to give it a diagnostic and it turned out to be the ignition switch, never had problems since.
