Question about 2001 Mercury Sable

I have a 2001 mercury sable that has a consistent clunking noise from the left and right front suspension. Is this likely the ball joints and if so how easy is it for a DIY repair?

Have all the rubber bushings looked at from shock/strut mounts to the sway bars. A good candidate also would be the ball joints. As stated from another member...get a repair manual or let a professional look at it and give u an estimate for repairs. Froom that you can do the repair youself if you want since you will have a list of needed parts to replace.

Probably is ball joints. They're easy to replace. The best thing to do is buy a chiltons auto repair manual, it shows you step by step to repair everything on your car

Check the front suspension ball joints and steering joints. Check wheel bearings and adjustment. Check shock absorber mounts for condition . Check steering insert condition and top mount rubbers and bearings if McPherson strut set up.. If you have a steering shock absorber then check it's condition and mounting

Clunking in the frount

A clunking sound in the front is very often the CV joints. This should be more obvious in a slow tight turn. If it is not the CV and is more noticeable on rough roads it could be any one if the suspension joints.
