Question about 2001 Mercury Sable
Have all the rubber bushings looked at from shock/strut mounts to the sway bars. A good candidate also would be the ball joints. As stated from another member...get a repair manual or let a professional look at it and give u an estimate for repairs. Froom that you can do the repair youself if you want since you will have a list of needed parts to replace.

Probably is ball joints. They're easy to replace. The best thing to do is buy a chiltons auto repair manual, it shows you step by step to repair everything on your car

the problem occurs when driving down the road and hittling any small bump
the clunking occurs while driving and hitting any small bump.
When do yiou hear the clunk, when putting vehicle in gear or driving down the road and hitting small or any bumps?
