Question about 1998 Hyundai Elantra

1 Answer

Reverse lights WON'T turn off.

Hi. I have a 1998 Hyundai Lantra. 1.6 (i think)(I can confirm if need be)

I have both my reverse lights/backlights on. Even with the ignition off. So the fuse and bulbs are fine. I had to take the bulbs out till i can sort out the problem, so no reverse lights at the moment.

I scared the hell out of a driver who was following me! I could imagine his surprise!

Any advice? suggestions?

The sensor on the shifter-to-tranny linkage may be stuck. May need to be replaced

I need the cylinder head torque settings for 1997

1998 Hyundai Lantra "G4GM" engine 1795cc.there are two heads or blocks, one is called the M10, other is the M12, figure out which one you have cause the torque is different for stage one by 5nm........... Dont get confused theres 2 different engines so 2 different torques for stage1---------
heres the full details: Stage 1 - m10 = 30nm / m12 = 35nm-------------------------- -------- Stage 2 - tighten by 60-65 degrees ------------ stage 3 - tighten by 60-65 degrees. no sequence is given in the data book for tightening so go off what you thinks right, it doesn't matter on this engine.

1999 Lantra - which fuse is for the reverse lights

may not have one because it could be hooked up to your ignition,so i would suggest that you check for power on the switch it self,if you got power both sides then remove your light globe and check if any power is there,if so replcae globes,if not check wiring from switch to lights.

Reverse gear almost dead in 1998 Lantra auto..

You have a bad O-ring seal in the valve body of your transmission. The reason you barely move when you rev high, is because the trans fluid isnt going to the correct part of the valve body due to the bad seal. This should be a repair you can do yourself if you have any mechanical experience, OR a transmission shop may be able to rebuild the valve body for you.
