Did you also change the immobiilizer , there should be a trandponder in the key that was coded to the ignition switch. The switch will need to be coded to the car I believe? You need the advice of an auto locksmith really, even if you get advice here the work will only be do anle by a professional .
Good Luck
Theyse modern cars can be very complex.

SOURCE: 2003 Impala: HOW DO I CHANGE BATTERY 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA...

The battery is under the hood, just behind the passenger headlight.
There is a black bar that crosses over the battery and goes back towards strut tower. Remove this bar and the three bolts; probably a 12 or 13mm socket.
Remove the negative (black) battery cable with an 8mm socket or wrench. A 5/16" should work also.
Then remove the positive (red) cable with same socket.
Remove the battery clamp and bolt. Probably a 12mm socket with extension.
It's tight, but the battery can be removed.
Reverse instructions for installing the battery. (That includes hooking up the red battery cable first, then the black cable.)

You have changed a component that needs to be recognized by the ECU otherwise the ECU tells the immobilizer that there is a temper with ignition wires and car will not start as it thinks it is being stolen. Get the car to a garage to reprogram the ECU to recognize the new ignition.

My 2005 chevy impala won't start since someone broke into my car

i would say when the person broke into your car they set off the security system which stops the car from starting, the way to reset the security is to put your key into the ignition turn the key until all the dash lights come on and let them stay on about 15 minutes after the 15 minutes have expired turn the key off and wait about 3 seconds and then your car should start. hope this helps.

2005 chevrolet impala ignition swich

Even if you bypassed the switch, your steering would remain locked. In order to determine what is wrong with it, (other than the obvious) It will need to be taken apart. You will need a manual (such as Haynes, chilton etc) in order to do this safely and correctly.
