Is the check engine light on? I really need more info on your veh. Eng. size, etc. You might have a look at the cold air intake tube, It could have a crack in it or be loose where it mounts to throttle body or air cleaner( could be drawing cold air in where it's not suppose to)If you can get me more details we can get to the bottom of your troubles, Hope this helps, Randy 6/2/15 Hi Shannon, Ok you had it checked and they said it was a sensor, If you can get me that code# we may be able to get to the bottom of your problem. Also just a little advise, I have been a mechanic for 40 years when it comes to Drivability Problems(check engine light) Please don't take your vehicle to AutoZone or any other "PARTS" store that calms to be able to diagnose your check engine light, Remember what they do, they sell parts....95% of the time the check engine light comes on is because of a emission related problem, meaning fuel related, ignition related, timing related. And some of these can be extremely costly to your engine, RE: Catastrophic engine failure. 1 injector or even a coil on plug going bad can destroy your engine, The auto parts store don't have the knowledge or tech. training to diagnose Drivability problems. They will read codes with a code reader not a scanner and then give you a piece of paper on how to repair it. Drivability techs spend yrs of training and money to diagnose these problems in todays cars. Just a little piece of mind take it to an expert.

You most likely have a 3.8 liter motor. You need to have a obd-2 diagnostic performed. Pep boys, Autozone, Aamco etc. can do this. (Ford also, but costly). If cam sensor failing, code will be stored in e.c.m, and data stream will prove out. The cam sensor failure is common on fords and they are usally available aftermarket (save a few dollars over O.E.M.) . If there is another problem, the diagnostic will help determine. Windstars are also prone to fuel pump failures and ignition switch problems.

Set your idle speed to mfg recomindation if that doesnt help check the dash pot that is what keeps the engine from stalling at sudden speed reduction

I have the same issue, but mine got a little worse as time went on. I got a new motor for and when I took the door apart I had to lower the window. so I had to plug the switches back in, and what do you know it started working. so I tested for 15 mins stiaght and it statred working every time I pushed the button. So, I would try that first before you spend over $70 dollars just for the part.

I'd be looking at removing IAC valve, and cleaning it out with throttle body spray cleaner, and checking mounting gasket as well. Usually some success with cleaning it & spray ports it came out of, but if not you may need to replace it.
