No more warranty which means no dealer. Is there a computer that can shut everything down if it overheats to save the engine? and if so will disconnecting the battery reset it?

Put a wrench on the crankshaft pulley and see if you can turn the engine.the 3.5 is a double overhead cam,if it overheated because the timing chain jumped, there could be engine damage.a blown head gasket will give no compression and alot of times ,oil in the coolant,or coolant in the oil.check both of those.the oil has to be drained as the coolant will destroy bearings etc.

Do you own a multimeter and a test light? Can you perform some diagnostics on the battery, continuity check on the ground and (+) cable and at the fuse box. Your symptoms sound like that of a low battery or poor electrical connection. Please write back with questions and new information. Good Luck.

Water reserve problem

There are few reasons why the 'flow' between reservoir and engine doesn't operate properly. However, in relation to that if you hear a noise coming from the front of the engine I would suspect first the water pump. Have the pump check as soon as possible to avoid engine overheat and severe further potential damages to the engine if my diagnostic is right. In all the cases, if the engine overheats (check your temperature gauge or warning light) stop the engine right away and let it cool down before to continue your road. If by coincidence or bad timing it's really alternator that makes noises it's that the bearings are bad then the alternator has to be replaced.
Hope it will help
Sorry for my english
