What is the reason for front grinding when turning

This due to either a worn wheel bearing or a worn front drive arm.

The most common cause of a grinding noise when turning is a worn front wheel bearing. What happens is that the weight of the car is shifted on to that wheel as you make the turn causing the worn bearing to make a grinding noise.

I have a 2002 ACURA MDX. The VTM-4 light shows on it own when you drive for about 50 yards. What effect does this have on the car? Can it be ignored?

It means there is a problem with the transfer case, 4wd system.
try disconnecting the battery for 2-3 minutes and see if it clears.
if not get it decoded at AutoZone or Kragens with their scanner.

It may also be one of the Oxygen sensors. I had the same problem and Acura told me that the front O2 sensor needed to be replaced. When that happens, for whatever reason the 4wd system is automatically disabled until you replace it. It is safe to drive but yoy have no all wheel drive right now.

I expereince what sounds like the abs engaging when I turn

a bad wheel speed sensor will do that generally in the wheel bearing on newer models but not always if the sensor is external rust can build up pushing the sensor away bottom line the abs sees the difference in speed and assumes the vehicle is skidding or slideing and deploys generally only happens at low speed 7-10mph when stopping hope this helps

2003 Acura MDX, makes noise and vibration while driving.

If it happens with light accelleration then there's a good chance it's your torque converter. This is one of the few weak points with MDX
