02 PT Cruiser LE w' Code P0340

Have a '02 PT Cruiser LE with approx 92K miles. Car just stalled on me while I was driving... literally while driving at 45mph. Code P0340 appeared. Took it in where they changed the crank sensor and cam sensor ( they claim they should be changed at the same time ) and still no luck.. Engine cranks but won't start. Car is due for plugs and wires soon. Thoughts?

Here's today's story....Went back today to "Goodyear" repair shop. The put in the following:

Crank sesnor & Cam sensor and car didn't start.
The put back old crank & cam sensor and claimed the "new" ones were out of the box defects.

They pulled spark plugs 1 & 4 since they're accessible and saw that it was time for new spark plugs.. Claimed "THIS" is the problem.

Added: new spark plug and wires
Left: old cam and crank sensors

    NOTHING WORKED!!!!

They finally advised that my timing belt needs to be replaced... what a bunch of morons! They wanted $270 for the plug and wires (labour incl) and another $300 for both sensors!! Oh and lets not forget the $65 tow.

I said kiss my a$$... they put back all the old parts and I towed it home. How can I believe it's now the timing belt as the main culprit???

engine light came one car stalling loosing power. code said 02 censer. changed both used Mopar parts. Runs fine until check engine light comes on stalls and loses power again. Cut it off for second then restart engine light is on but runs fine just an occasional sputter. This is the same thing all the time. what else could be wrong. Cam shaft filter was also changed.

My thought is to get a refund from the shop that tried to replace parts in order to secure your problem. The job of the shop is to diagnose the problem, not to replace items that may be the problem. Chrysler Master Techs are not trained to just replace parts, they fix the problem by diagnosing it properly.

You need to see a Chrysler dealership so they can attach a DRBIII and tell you exactly what is at stake.

I hope this helps you. I would be mad as heck.

I would not think the plugs and wires would be the problem because they would all have to fail at the same time to provide the symptom you experienced.

1. Get your money back
2. DRBIII

all codes are OBDll and are available on line free. personally I would replace battery. Batteries often fail during the summer, but appear during winter as it takes more power to start cat.

2002 PT Cruiser. Vehicle shut down while driving. Received P0340 Trouble code..No camshaft position sensor signal at pcm. I replaced Position Camshaft Sensor, book suggests life on these 5-10 years, It...

This could be related to a loose camshaft drive belt. If you have slack in the belt the camshaft will rebound on over run causing the P0340. It can also be a Crackshaft sensor problem too.(P0335) Hope this helps...

Y wife was driving our 04 pt cruiser and it stalled at alight, then a stop sign but started back up. Then a few miles later she pulled over to the side to let someone pass and the low rpm's made it stall...

Will not make any noise when valve's get bent, piston just hit's it enough to bent then, this is an interference engine, which the possibility of piston to valve damage in the event of timing belt failure is most likely to occur, also while in there doing repair's, I would also replace water pump, due to it's timing belt driven.

change the crankshaft positon sensor in the rear of the engine above the oilfilter. Also check the wiring to this sensor, they have a problem shorting out. You have to change the camshaft and crankshaft sensors at the same time. Make sure you give your car a major tune up. Did you check yor starter?.........runjoe
