There is a spay can available at auto parts store under the name "belt dressing". Try to spray it on the belt and see what happens. It may be caused by misalignment of the belt and/or excessive slip, which would be calling to check belt tension. It could be a problem with alternator as well. Good luck finding the culprit.

Hi Jason remove belt and turn all the pulleys by hand there must be one seizing. And check the crank pully some have a rubber damper that fails and causes the outer pully to spin on the inner one. Good Luck.

Removal of the crankshaft front pulley/damper can be removed without any damage being caused to the cam belt.
They are a good fit on the shaft, I personaly use a lead tup, weighs 2lbs and will not damage anything if used properly.
Tap equaly all the way round the pulley, that should be ok.

SOURCE: Is it bad to run an idle pulley in the "wrong" direction?

It would be in your best interest to just replace the wobbly (worn idle pulley) trying to jury rig something will only cause you further frustration in my experience.

Could it be the pulley on the AC that's squealing? Use a mechanic's stethoscope to locate the squeal. If it is the AC, you can get a belt that is shorter, and bypass the pump, since it doesn't work anyway. Try some belt dressing first. When the engine is running, just spray it on the inside of the belt.

Sounds like something with bad bearings. Check in the area of air conditioner compressor or power steering and yes water pump.even the belt tightener will do that.

When I raise the hood and with motor running looking to my left there is a belt running and a squeaking noise at idle coming from that area. The van is front wheel drive so motor sits in there sideways.

Has it just started with cold weather? Does it squeal at first then as the engine is revved, stop squealing.

If so its probably your alternator belt has worked loose and needs tightening. I'd check this out first, if you've not done it before ask a friend with some know how for guidance. But as a guide, there should be about an inch of give when flexed on the longest run between 2 pulleys, if more then probably needs tightening. If more than a couple of years old, replace with a new one.

If it still squeals after tightening/replacing, you could have a faulty water pump bearing or pulley bearing. Either would require replacement to pre-empt catastrophic failure and resultant engine damage.

2005 grand cherokee squealing and loss of coolant

Check belt tension, squeeling is most likely due to belt slippage. Have you noticed any fluid leaking from under your Jeep? Coolant level drop could be from bad water pump, when the pump needs replacing, water flows out of a "weep hole". It could be leaking onto your belt also, causing it to squeel

Did you take the time to clean all pulleys good with brake clean or similar cleaner, when belt was off? . Sometimes a little antifreeze, or windsheild washer antifreeze can get spilled on the belt(s) and cause that, as well as an oil drip. Take a flashlight & double check that you don't have oil dripping down on there somewhere. Only other thought is that maybe power steering pump working too hard or alternator on it's way out, causing extra load on the belt.
