Why is it having trouble moving in reverse?

Apparently some of these won't go into reverse unless the park brake is on. It has almost killed us twice so far

My CTS 2005 don't not go in reverse but all others gear works

Sounds like it could be a faulty reverse shift solenoid.

either you have lost the reversing gear or the gear shifting solenoid will not work.

Broken shift cable ?
If the neutral safety switch is on the transaxle and the cable is broken, the switch could still be in the reverse position.

could be the reverse planetary gear, which also runs 2nd and 4th gears.

i would be checking the shifter cable adjustment first see how that goes goodluck
